Christ on a bike! Am I glad that's over! I very much enjoy the Holiday season, but could do without New Years revelry, all together.(could do with out New Years revelry).

This is my first weekend off since Dec. 28(pity me), and I spent my Saturday at a local flea market. Found about 8 old vhs movies and only spent around 30 bucks.
My purchases include:

The Adventures Of Don Juan(1949): Errol Flynn's last great swashbuckler before alcoholic dissipation set in. Awesome flick with plenty o' humor and good action. And Robert Douglas as the rat-bastard to end all rat-bastards.

Dodge City(1939): Okay, so I like Errol Flynn. Amazing western shot in technicolor, one of my all time favorites. I was just mentioning this to Scott a week or so ago, and I finally found an inexpensive copy.

The Black Swan(1942): Tyrone Power actioner, very loosely based on the Raphael Sabatini(Captain Blood, The Sea Hawk, Scaramouche) novel. Another riotous adventure flick, also among my favorites. Maureen O' Hara is wicked hot!

Also picked up The Divorce Of Lady X, Fire Over England(both with Laurence Olivier), The Scarlet Pimpernel(1935), Sinbad The Sailor(1947), and Footsteps In The Dark(1941), none of which I have previously seen.

So, that was pretty much a pointless post, just wanted to gloat about my purchase of films noone but me wants to watch. Yea, Me!!

Used to watch "The Black Swan" every time it turned up on AMC. Great old fashioned pirate flick with the kind of broad cast of name actors that I wish they could afford to put in films these days.

-Slight Hijack-

Are the Raphael Sabatini novels like "Captain Blood" worth reading? Saw a couple of them during a trip to the local Mega-Bookstore last week, guess someone decided to bring them back into print after the success of "Pirates Of The Caribbean". Didn't buy any, got an Iceberg Slim book instead, but I am always looking for fun adventure novels old or new.

I enjoy them, Yaddo. I've read Captain Blood and Scaramouche several times, and recently read The Sea Hawk and The Black Swan. I've also read The Carolinian. They're definitely fun adventure books, with twists and turns and action, and all the good stuff that you find in the movies that're based on them. Oddly, Captain Blood and Scaramouche are the only books I've read that resemble the movies. The Sea Hawk and The Black Swan (movies) were absolutely nothing like the books, except for the pirate plot lines.

We're not talking Hemingway here, but I would absolutely recommend them. They're fast, full of action, and tons o' fun for young and old!

Yeah, Scott. Don't know if you remember talking about Dodge City, awhile back, but it's a must see western! If you like swashbucklers, you gotta check out The Black Swan and Don Juan, they're probably lesser known today than Captain Blood or The Sea Hawk, but, in my opinion, just as good!!
