NEKROMANTIK(my friendly warning)

The Burgomaster

Let me start out by saying that:

1.  I am 39 years old and I have seen thousands of movies
2.  I do NOT believe in censorship
3.  I have watched movies depicting every sort of violence and depravity that you can imagine (cannibalism, torture, rape, incest, dismemberment, drug abuse, prostitution, you name it . . . )  Many such movies are in my DVD collection.

Having said all that, I will now tell you that I purchased the DVD of NEKROMANTIK and watched it last night.  It is the sickest movie I have ever seen, and I warn you that if you watch it, you do so WITHOUT my recommendation.

The movie starts out like a typical "shocking" B-movie.  The first scene is of a woman urinating by the side of the road.  The first gore scene shows 2 accident victims: one with his eyeball hanging out, and the other cut in half at the waist.  So far, nothing we all haven't seen a thousand times in other movies.

However, the movie goes on to show fairly graphic scenes of a couple having sex with a decomposing corpse.  It also contains a scene of a rabbit having its throat cut, then being skinned and disemboweled.  There is more, but I won't go into detail.

The gore and make-up effects range from okay to very good.  The rabbit scene is real.

The entire tone of the movie is downbeat and depressing.  Not much humor here.

I am definitely not a prude.  I am not a conservative film watcher.  I am not someone who protests against violence in movies or on television.  I have watched many graphic, over-the-top movies in my life, such as: PINK FLAMINGOS, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, LAST HOUSE ON DEAD END STREET, DEAD ALIVE, CANNIBAL FEROX, FACES OF DEATH, THE MEN BEHIND THE SUN, etc.  However, NEKROMANTIK reaches new heights in sickness.  Some people may find this movie interesting or fascinating, but I don't think that many people can say that they found it enjoyable or entertaining.

Watch it at your own risk (or peril).

They actually made a sequel to this movie that ended up in some sort of legal hassle in German courts because of the violence.  I can't imagine that it is worse than part I.

I've read numerous reviews of this flick but have yet to find it in my area.

It has always sounded like a great b film.  Husband and wife having threesomes with dead bodies.  Great stuff.

But, I have also heard that it is just as graphic as you mentioned.  Putting this one from my must see list to my maybe list.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

I got the sequel a few years ago and never finished watching it...it was really dull.
I'm sure what violence there was in the film was probably shocking, but I couldn't sit through the film to get to that point.

Agua Moose

I saw an interview with the director Jörg Buttgereit (he also co-wrote I believe).  He said the only reason that it passed through the censors was because the makers claimed that the film was a social satire, and that the necrophilia was metaphorical for problems within German culture.  I forget the exact details, but he admitted that they just made it up so that the movie wasn't banned.

Were did you dig this film up Burgomaster? Just read some more reviews after reading your post. Phew, what a catch you found....................

Scott:

I got it online from Deep Discount DVD.  The sequel is available as well, but I only bought part 1.  If the movie had better make-up and gore effects, it would be excruciatingly unpleasant to watch.

That's the general take I've heard on it.  NEKROMANTIK was all the rage about 10 years ago, but people don't seem to talk about it much now.  Do the Film Threat people still have the rights to it?

Chopper

Burgo, i remember catching this sicko-piece of trash a while back. i had no idea the rabbit scene was real, that makes it all the more sick!!
i can't think of any reason someone would want to make a film like this other than to shock people or to get off on their own sick fantasies.

No ones..'getting off'.  I've met Jorg a few times when he used to frequent many horror festivals in the UK.  He's a very stable, very friendly guy who is a big film fan and just loves to make horror films.  "Nekromantik" is pure exploitation.  And there is nothing wrong witht that.
And yet it still gets all these 'icky' comments even from intelligent horror fans.  And too many people feel free to comment on it without actually seeing it.  NOT a good idea.
Yes, the rabbit scene is real...but lets look at the facts and not the hysterics.  The rabbit footage is simply Jorg and co filming the death of a rabbit on a rabbit farm where they are killed everyday.  They just filmed it.  Bunny would still be snuffed whether "Nekro" existed or not.  And if you eat meat????? Stop b***hing.

"Nekro 2" is not as good purely because it is so bloated with pretentious and just plain dull sequences.  Some of it is good and the end is superb and indeed shocking, but overall the leam mean beast that the first was has been diluted.

And for all the fuss of "Nekro" it actually contains very little violence or full on gore and has a tinu, tiny bodycount.  It's just the subject matter that seems to get people upset....But if you watch a film called "Nekromantik" (esp if you have read reviews of it) don't then moan about  what it contains.
My thoughts on the 2 films can be found here:

42nd:

I agree with everything you say.  The purpose of this thread was merely to express my opinion thet NEKROMANTIC is the sickest movie I have ever seen.  It has nothing to do with the body count.  It is the depressing tone of the movie and the fact that the violence and gore scenes are very intimate and personal.  It is more psychologically disturbing than visually disturbing.

As for the live rabbit scene, I pointed that out because many people are disturbed by on-camera killings of animals.  The rabbit scene is NOT what brought me to the conclusion that this is the sickest movie I have ever seen.  In fact, it didn't really bother me at all.  I eat rabbit at least 2 or 3 times a year, so I've seen what it looks like before you cook it.

I am in no way criticizing this movie or the people who made it.  I will reiterate that I do NOT believe in censorship.  I am merely offering a few words of warning to people who may not have seen it yet.

It is in my DVD collection, and it will remain there.  I will probably watch it again before the end of the year.  Moreover, I will probably buy the sequel.  But my opinion remains the same: NEKROMANTIC is the sickest movie I have ever seen.

42nd st, I apologize for it's been a while since i've seen this film and I don't even remember it too well. I didn't mean to insult the filmmaker, and I hope I didn't come across that way. I've seen far worse films and I was talking out my ass for the most part. Also like Burgo said I don't believe in censorship.
so I eat my own words...

I think PINK FLAMINGOS is probably worse.....

The Burgomaster

jmc:

PINK FLAMINGOS is certainly up there, but that movie has a lot of humor in it.  There is nothing funny about NEKROMANTIK.
