THE PHANTOM CREEPS [1939) - Picked up these great classic serials starring Bela Lugosi.  A theater serial would show a new episode every week and they would always end with a "cliffhanger" to the the short serial before a regular movie at the theater. THE PHANTOM CREEPS is one of the great serials as Lugosi plays a scientist that has developed all sorts of things like exploding mechanical spiders, invisibility waistband, and a big robot. The scenes are also something to behold as one scene shows a plane in a high tailspin and crashing nose first into the ground and the plane kinda bounces all nearly in tact and of the three passangers two survive this crash with one concious and walking around, the other in suspended animation (that's what they called it), and the lady died. Before the plane crashes though a reporter hiding on board is seen putting on a parachute while the plane is going straight down and she is standing with no effort at all. If you haven't see this one you should. I'll put this right next to my RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON.

The DVD that I purchased comes with all 12 episodes for $5.99.

Anyone recognize this robot?

Modelled after Tor Johnson maybe?

Rob Zombie uses the same monster robot in his video/images for his hit album a few years ago.

This serial is a must see for all B-movie fans as well as Bela Lugosi fans. Also the opening to some of the episodes is just like George Lucas STAR WARS opening scene with the story text going into space, only here the letters go into the sky with a mountain castle in the background. The film also has other elements to Lucas work. Pick it up if you can find it. You won't be dissappointed.
