Its a Fred Olen Ray film...and its one of his first films. It only had a budget of 12,000 dollars and is full of boobs. But like I said, its a Fred Olen Ray film.

Now, I've never seen The Alien Dead but heard mixed reviews about it, and read the review at this site.

What do you guys think about the film? Is it worth my 9 bucks for the DVD? Is the film like Zombies' Lake?

Nathan Shumate

Zombie Lake is actually better.

(Let that sink in...)

It's not really full of boobs....definitely not as many as ZOMBIE LAKE.  Therefore, on that level, ZOMBIE LAKE is better.

But it's a fun bad movie, so you might as well pick it up I guess.

So "Zombie Lake" is the zombie movie with the most nudity in it?

The Ghoul

VERY BAD, dull, pathetic, worse than jock itch in August heat...take your pick! I was hoping for a lost gem and I got an old moss covered floating turd. This site should give it 3 skulls as in numb skulls. Every negative point brought up in the review is far too kind. AND I LOVE CRAPPY MOVIES!!! I love Zombie movies especially. I'll take a crappy student film shot with a jerky 8mm home movie camera zombie movie over this s**t-wich. There is NOTHING to like. The gore consists of spitting blood caps every single time!! And a 34 second boob shot is not worth $10!! 3 minutes of bad dialog from a drunk Flash Gordon was not worth it. Nothing to hoot at unless you like bad camera work that is hardly in focus, never properly lit and never has anything but far off long shots of the "actors." Did I mention it has no gore?! On the 25th Anniversary DVD the chopped up 1992 cast reunion from say fey Florida local cable TV channel has the actors last words were..."it wasn't a very good film." NO s**t Sherlock!!! AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. The Alien Dead is NOT worth ONE SINGLE TJ'ed hootchie licked paseo!

i thought that "oasis of zombie" was bad, but "the alien dead " its a very good  manual of "how every amateur film director shouldnt  NEVER do a film" .

I'm convinced. I'll never buy "The Alien Dead"

The only way I will see it is if they ever show it on Showtime Beyond.

The Ghoul

Well I saved one poor sap from giving into this dreck. (Fools and dreamers...that's what reporters are!! --I quote Buster Crabbe in describing myself for buying Alien Dead) I did listen to Fred's audio directors commentary as I wanted some entertainment for my $10. I got 35 cents worth listening to Fred Rey. After he spends 20 minutes talking about film stock,  he did get to be funny to listen to as he put down his own first feature film. BTW Fred, your film is grainy because you used the wrong film stock (or too old film stock) and you were too lazy (cheap) to light it properly. Look at Russel Crowe's Romper Stomper which was shot on 16mm. It looks fantastic because they used lights!!!!! They shot during the day if they used exteriors. Even a 3 stand light can work wonders, which obviously Fred didn't bother with. Instead of spending $12,000 on an under lit mess, Fred could have spent $15,000 like he planned and had LIGHTS!!! Of course editing, synch sound and an original thought might have helped too. A film script written by a 9 year old might have improved it. Can't do much with an amature actress who won't take her top off thou.
