Question about MST3K dvd's

Me and a few friends are very fond of bad but funny movies movies like plan 9 from outer space, the giant spider invasion and to a certain extent manos.
We got the idea to buy Pod People, and I suddenly remembered it was often billed as one of the best MST3K episodes. Living in Europe, the show has never been on TV here but I know it's a man and some robots sitting in chairs 'enduring' bad movies while slamming them with funny comments and taking up 1/4th of the screen. I was also thinking about getting the beast of yucca flats and I think it is available MST3K'ed too.

I have 2 questions:
1: Where can I order these dvd's/are the NTSC (unwatchable in Europe) or for global distribution?
2: Are the films only viewable with the comment on and the shades of the characters in front of it? Or is there an option to watch it 'un-mst3k'ed' with fullscreen and no comments? Because we always comment on these films it would be more fun to first watch it without the commentary, and then another evening with the comments.

Thanks in advance :)

Rhino Video sold VHS copies of MST3K. I bought a copy second hand for $1 at some vintage shop. Of course europe uses the PAL format and who likes VHS anymore? Still anything from MST3K is gold.

TheEvilDoctor

Any sites to order from? Or something....

Go to the Rhino Video web site. I notice MST3K made light of Boggy Creek II: The Legend Continues, any body catch the first Boggy Creek? Yikes! Anybody can flame that movie, love them red neck chicks thou. Rhino has Volumn 5 of MST3K on DVD for the hefty sum of $59.95US. I'll wait for it to come down in price. All DVD's do sooner or later.

I figured there's got to be a cheaper way to see MST3K. Go to the tape trading post. Not sure if it's 100% legal either.

Enjoy!

Hey thanks :) That Rhino video site helps a lot.
The other site are episodes recorded from TV mostly, and that's not quite what I'm looking for.
Maybe you can tell me if all the dvd's have the option to turn the commentary on/off? Because only dvd-pack nr 1 says so.

Muahahahaha

The Ghoul

Why would you want to turn the commentary off?? There's some MST3K movies I just couldn't sit through without it! Actually, I have no idea if all the DVD's Rhino sells of MST3K can turn off the commentary. Guess you'll have to ask them. Pass the word on what you find out for other MSTies.

TheEvilDoctor

Ok I will.
Why do I want to turn the commentary off? Because I like to make fun of a movie myself too, and it wouldn't be as funny if some of the spontaneous comments would be the same as the mst3k crew did.
Also I like to find faults on my own and ridicule them (as do my friends) so it wouldn't be as funny if we already knew most of them.
I can proudly say I watched Manos (I have it on dvd) without mst3k comment and still had a good time because me + my 2-yr-younger-brother made fun of every stupid thing happening on screen. It would be great to see what the mst3k crew did to it though :)

So?
Get the flick as is. I do home made MST3Ks, but only movies the guy never got a chance at. Reptilicus, for example.
And some of the Rhino dvds have the flick un altered.

Some movies...can't be taken without the suger of Joel, Mike, and the bots....They are that sour.
Manos, anyone?

You could also try ripping the DVDs to your computer and watching the movies on there, though it's tricky to do. As long as you own the DVD, it's legal to do that.
