The Warden

I have reviews of 7 of those movies up at prisonflicks.com.  Come check it out.

Escape from Alcatraz is a great escape movie -- actually focused on the escape itself.  Most prison movies just focus on the motivations for the escape attempt, rather than the escape itself.

Another interesting one, The Defiant Ones -- basically an extended escape movie.  Nice acting all around.

Take care,

Lots of good ones already mentioned here, Papillion, The Great Escape, Stalag 17, Escape from NY (I haven't seen Escape from LA).

Alcatraz was a good movie, Eastwood was very good, but I couldn't get over a nagging issue for me:  how can I root for a guy who's in Alcatraz?  They don't send scofflaws there.

Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity starts out in a prison ship.  And then there are all those Women in Prison flicks. . .

Well I suppose with these type of films you just have to suspend your disbelief and put yourself in magic movie world where the justice system is so evil the supreme court and humanity alone cannot save you!

How about DEATH SPORT.  Not a favorite, or even a good movie.  But it is a prison escape movie.

Another reason to watch "Victory," besides the fact that it was directed by John Huston, one of the world's greatest soccer players was in it, Pele.

I loved the following:

Escape From Alcatraz
The Great Escape
Victory (God, I was 10 when this came out, and Pele was the big name in it!)
The Shawshank Redemption

While on a journey, Chuang Tzu found an old skull, dry and parched.
With sorrow, he questioned and lamented the end of all things.
When he finished speaking, he dragged the skull over and, using it for a pillow, lay down to sleep.
In the night, the skull came to his dreams and said, 'You are a fool to rejoice in the entanglements of life.'
Chuang Tzu couldn`t believe this and asked, 'If I could return you to your life, you would want that, wouldn`t you?'
Stunned by Chuang Tzu`s foolishness, the skull replied, 'How do you know that it is bad to be dead?'
