I borrowed the Helloboy DVD from the rental place anyways the movie is about Nazis (another WWII thing) opening a portal to Hell to destroy the world (Hitler wanted to own the world so apparently some one's not fitting in!) These Nazis aren't your normal one's with the Luger, nachine guns and stuff of that manner, no there kinda immortal. The US sent a special forces group to stop them. Unfortunately the portal was opened and a red ape like boy with horns and a brick hand comes out. A scientists keeps him and the soldier calls him Hellboy (some comic geek had to much fun with some fumes). Years later Hellboy is like our Big Foot (don't ask if I believe in Big Foot) many see him but they are only pictures. They claim there is some secret cover up about paranormal events but the government denies it. The actual story starts now! An government agent joins the paranormal organiztion that does exists. The agent becomes a nanny for Hellboy. Hellboy is part of a team of two freaks, which are him and some blue guy called Abe that's a physic fish. They go to a museum to investigate an attack on security squads. They out the Nazis are back to there old tricks trying to release Hell on earth and buying time by creating fish demons that reproduce faster than bacteria. All this plus the fact Hellboy is in loved in with Drew Bary errr...Liz a firestarter (Steven King is calling about copyright infringement) They have to group up and stop the evil people from destroying earth (When would you learn to stop telling the world your plans) This film is as cliche as the McBaine movies on the Simpsons. It is really a good looking B-movie. The DVD has so much crap that it gets tiring because I'm not all that interested but we have some cartoon shorts including one on Edgar Allen Poe A Tell-Tale Heart. To comics fan this might satisfy your needs till the next decent comic movie comes out (definitely not Catwoman) as for buying it, watch then decide.

A B-movie? Hellboy was on par with the first Spiderman movie. Note that I said the FIRST. Spiderman 2 would kick any superhero movie's ass, maybe even X2.

And did anyone hear? Catwoman is beating Spiderman 2 at the box office for last week(end).

The Hellboy comic book series is one of the best written in the past decade, and the movie was a near perfect representation of it.  One of the few super hero movies to stay true to the comic book.  That alone is enough for me to praise this movie, but beyond that, the special effects were great, and the costumes were phenomenal.  I agree, it is on par with spiderman, just not a popular a character.

I read the Hellboy comics before I knew a movie was being made. I enjoyed the comics, so I figured I'd really like the movie. But I walked away from the movie disappointed. The costumes looked great, and the casting was awesome, but I think the script fell short. The writers tried too hard to feed Hellboy a giant plateful of one-liners- and they were almost all unfunny.
The ending of the movie was disappointing, too. It felt anticlimatic to me.
I may go see a second Hellboy movie, hoping the writers get it right the second time around, but I won't be buying the first Hellboy on DVD. I have no desire to see it again.

1. Hellboy is definitely a B-movie. He was like Ash in the Army of Darkness with his one liners except now he smokes and looks different.  We had Nazis to take over the world. We have the same cliches over and over again even though the story started pretty original asin for  characters'  origins the story falls flat to cliches at the end. But who cares It was decent. (I like Spider-Man 1 better because it had Bruce Campbell)
2. X2 wasn't that great anyways. I thought it was over-rated.
3. I bet you the people went to see Catwoman just went so they could watch some hot lady with a wip and small costume. The majorities isn't always right. Ask the people who supported the American Idol series.

Harry

Hellboy is not a B movie, you're dumb.  The story was pretty much straight from the comic book, so I'm not sure how you can like the comics, but not the movie script.

Should wait for the 3 disc special edition, which has 15minutes of footage added, plus lots of  those yummy extras.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I never said Hellboy was a "B movie." And the comic book wasn't full of unfunny jokes, so that's where the difference lied for me.

o_O And I'm sure NONE of us saw Catwoman. No one would see that festering, rotting pile of s**t, even if they got to stare at Halle Berry prance around in the dumb-f**kiest looking outfit ever to grace comic-book-moviedom. It's sad to think of how tiny your brain is. Truly, it is.

Brother Ragnarok

First off, I love the movie and I love the comics, and even counting the Spidey flicks, I think Hellboy is the best comic book movie period.  Snark at me if you want to, I didn't say you had to love it, but I do.
I was just planning on renting this, but my geekdom prevailed and I was in Wal-Mart at midnight on Monday, asking the night stocker to get me one from the storeroom because they hadn't unpacked them yet, so I got the very first copy out of the box.
I would have had to rent it a bunch of times to get through all the extras (the 3-disc director's cut will have some new/different extras than the 2-disc), so at least this way I can watch everything at my leisure.  By the time I watch the movie a few times and all the extras, I'll have gotten my $15 dollars' worth, and there's a $5 rebate coupon inside for the 3-disc when it comes out.

Brother Ragnarok, I think you and I would get along well...you wouldn't happen to be my long lost twin would you?

Catwoman makes me VERY angry.  You would have to pay me (alot) to watch it.

Brother Ragnarok

To my knowledge, I have no siblings, but I don't doubt that we'd get along just fine.

I enjoyed Hellboy when it came to theatres and I just couldn't resist buying the dvd. It was fifteen dollars!!! Who passes that up? Anyway, I haven't watched it yet, but the DVD looks nice and the movie has many great scenes that remind me of Lovecraft and other sorts of dark influences. My pick for best comic book film.

Screw Spider-man 2 and it's maudlin ending. yuck. Other wise, that's another entertaining picture.

Hellboy was quite cool. I liked a lot...

...but Catwoman? Must admit, I´ve seen it... and it was a complete waste of money!

From my spirit comes the darkness.
From the void, the crimson fortress rises."
