I just bought a DVD called "Yokai Monsters: Along With Ghosts." After viewing it, I'm still trying to decide what to think about it. It's interesting, at least. It's set in (I guess) late 19th century Japan (or at least it looks a lot like the Zatoichi movies, and that's the time frame I get from them). An old man, the keeper of a sacred cemetary, is murdered and, with his dying breath, sends his granddaughter to search for her real father. The cover looked like it would be really cheesy fun, almost like a kid's movie, but it is too scary for kids. But at the same time, it isn't really scary enough for adults. I suppose it is on about the same level as R.L. Stein books -- that is, aimed at teenagers. It seems there are three of these movies, with this being the third.

Does anyone know anything more about these? The previews on the DVD make the others look really fun.

I bought the one subtitled "Spook Warfare", I've yet to watch the film itself for some reason, but I've watched the previews on the disc a bunch of times. I remember reading an interesting review of all three films at a b-movie website but can't remember which. Sorry.

My mistake, yet again. Dr. Freex has a brief review of "Spook Warfare" at Bad Movie Report. For some reason I though he had a review of all three Yokai films on Attack of the 50 Ft. DVD. Right reviewer, wrong site.

Saw these on the shelf at Best Buy a few times.  The monster designs look pretty funky, but I'd certainly like to check them out some time.
