There was an old sci-fi movie that I had seen ages ago, it was probably made early to mid eighties, I have no idea of the name or who was in it but the gist of the story was about the " pineal gland " that this school marmish researcher was studing, that when activated brought you or enabled you to see into a different dimension. Can anyone help???

Thanks

Sounds like From Beyond to me.

H.P. Lovecraft story loosely turned into this film with most of the cast from Re-Animator.  Great film.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

The first movie I thought of is "Altered States"

hhmmm...

doesn't sound like ALTERED STATES to me. That had to do with sensory deprivention chambers unlocking man's primitive state.

other than that...i'm of no help on this one.

Thank you everyone.  "From Beyond" it is. Now I just have to hunt down a copy.
Thanks again

The lead from both movies.  I caught a small question and answer session with him at Dragoncon a few years ago.  Everyone else was in one of the big lecture halls, listening to somebody bigger (probably "Star Wars" folk).  He was in this little room, in the basement, with an audience of only about 50 or 60 people.  Had a pretty good story about working for Full Moon Productions too.  Neat fellow.

*That* I'd like to hear...

I can imagine that working for Charles and Co has to be pretty..well..pretty interesting anyway.

Still remember Tim Thomerson talking about Helen Hunt on the set for Trancers III (or IV?) "She's getting a million dollars an episode on a TV show and I'm in Romania making this movie"

The pineal must be like the doberman of glands, there used to be tons of pineal themed movies. You know, John Caradine stuff where he's doing something to them to make people immortal or atomic or astro-zombies.

And one of the best pineal films,  at least of those that I have seen, is "The Leech Woman." A film from 1960 and something of a feminist film, and thus years ahead of its time, as a woman gets back at all the men who betrayed her or tried to betray her. And to make it even more different, unlike most films of that time, there is no happy ending for the hero in the film.
