Halloween is almost upon us, and I'm sure many of us are looking forward to a horror movie binge. So, what movies are you planning to watch this Halloween?

I've only begun to give it some thought, but I think I might introduce my wife to the Evil Dead movies. She doesn't like horror, but they're campy enough that she'll probably get a kick out of them. She also enjoyed the Spider Man movies, so this should interest her, being earlier work from the same director.

I'm on my usual October horror movie buying spree.  So far I picked up the Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit (unfortunately didn't like those very much), Cheerleader Camp (didn't like that either), and I'm currently waiting for:  Friday the 13th parts 3 and 5, Night of the Demons, and House on Sorority Row.

A few things I've got picked out for TV viewing:  The Independent Film Channel is showing Suspiria, Inferno and Deep Red on Oct. 30.  I haven't seen any of those, so that will be interesting.

Actually my birthday was a few days ago (thank you, thank you) and every year my friends and I have a horror movie marathon of various themes. These years theme was Dark and F***ed Up.

10 am - Texas Chainsaw Massicure
11:30 am - Dead Alive
1:00 pm - Heathers
3:00 pm - Re-Animator
4:30 pm - Sleepaway Camp
6:00 pm - House of 1000 Corpses
7:30 pm - Bubba Ho-Tep
9:00 pm - Killer Klowns from Outer Space
10:30 pm - Toxic Avenger

Revisited DAGON a couple of nights.  It is definitely my favorite Lovecraft adaptation.  I only meant to watch part of it, but I ended up glued to the screen till the end and only got about 4 hours sleep that night.

Looking through what I have around the place, I'll probably watch that copy of "Raw Meat", a Coffin Joe flick (the second one), and maybe some of the MGM Midnight Movies double feature discs I've been hoarding for a while.

Either that or raid the old VHS shelves at Hollywood Video for anything I haven't seen, since their DVD Horror section is rather tame and few of the straight-to-video new releases look encouraging, considering how folks here ripped into "Vampires vs. Zombies" for example.

Glad I didn't wait to watch my Dollar Tree purchase of "Web of the Spider" on Halloween though. That would have been a let down, I fell asleep watching it and woke up during the last five minutes. I had to go back and fast forward through parts to get what I missed, what a dull waste. Kinski's "story within a story" intro at the beginning was the best part of the film.

My usuals will be watched on Halloween (or right around there):
Maniac - Good old Joe Spinell, you can't go wrong with this one.
Mother's Day- Troma and filmed near where I used to live.
Dr. Butcher- Almost 2 movies in one and cannibals...yup!
Evil Dead- No need to say anything about this one.

I was disappointed last night though. I was hoping to have a copy of Tourist Trap here in time but I lost on the auction. Oh well...

I could plug in Nosferatu, but I may go with Phantom of the Opera (1925 version.)  Haven't watched that dvd yet.

Lots of good ones up there -- I love Nosferatu and Bubba Ho-Tep -- I may have to end up owning a copy of old Bubba someday . . .
My favorite Halloween combo is Curse of the Cat People -- an ideal "first" horror picture for the little ones that holds up after multiple viewings.  Val Lewton was such an auteur!! -- followed by Five Million Years to Earth/aka Quatermass and The Pit:  Demons, legends, Latin, spaceships, science fiction, arguments about the nature of God, Nazi V-weapons, Martians, giant bugs, telepathic violence, big balls of fire, ghosts, ancient curses . . . kitchen sinks.  Really, the all-time ultimate Halloween movie for my money --

I'm looking forward to viewing these films on AMC during their annual MONSTERFEST marathon.

Dr. Renault's Secret
The Skull
Dr. Cyclops  (might have seen it as a child)
The Undying Monster
Scars of Dracula   (might have seen it)
The Beast Must Die
Horror of Frankenstein
The Devil's Rain (saw a part of it along time ago)
And Now the Screaming Starts!
Entertainment Weekly's Scariest Movies

And I hope to rent two of the more recent remakes:

Dawn of the Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This year I'll finally have a good looking copy of The Mutilator for my viewing pleasure:

1. The Mutilator

2. Evil Dead

3. Suspiria (DVD, not on IFC)

4. Deep Red (IFC)

5. Dawn Of The Dead ('04)

6. The Sentinel - By far one of my favorite Halloween flicks.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

I'm in Boston, so I'm going to try to catch the Coolidge Corner Theater's 13-hour slasher marathon: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blood Feast, Friday the 13th part IV, April Fool's Day, Peeping Tom, and maybe more, from midnight on the 30th to 1PM on the 31st. Should be an experience, if nothing else!
