This might seem real obvious, but while watching these films you can feel the similarities from each country.

American Western Films - Historical settings, the frontier against Indians

Italian Roman Empire - Roman Legions on the frontier of the Empire against Barbarians.

Italian Western - Challenges with the gunfight.

Hong Kong Kung Fu - Challenges with martial arts.

Medieval European Knights - Knights and honor

Japanese Samarai - Warriors and bushido.

Basically they are all action films in historical settings. The look fore each is very different yet some of them have a similiar feel to them. Even the three types above can be cross refferenced. I really enjoy films with historic settings. Even in Horror films like with Hammer the settings made the films more interesting.
