THE STORY OF RICKY (1991) - Wow, the bloodiest Kung Fu prison film ever made. Don't miss this one as it's worth repeat viewing. Fun story and action that you will all like. If it wasn't for this messageboard I would never have heard of it. Great entertaining film. A must see.

THE STORY OF RICKY

Thanks again Andrew. This one is a true gem.

Hey Menard, you have to see this film. There are to many scenes to even begin, but how about a guy who strangles Ricky with his own intestines. The film is over the top in the gore ratings.

Menard

I don't normally care for kung-fu flicks, unless of course it involves women, sweat, and shredding clothes (heh..heh). But, how can I pass up someone being strangled with their own intestines. Does that qualify as a movie that you really have to 'stomach'? Just a 'gut' feeling' ( :

Andrew

An entirely over-the-top (everyone uses that when describing this) film.  A couple of the sections drag, but I think that is just due to the rest of the film being so crazed and full of energy.

Try to imagine that, for the longest time, I only had this on a VCD in its original language.   It made the movie special, because you start guessing what people are saying and why they are doing things.

STORY OF RICKY is actually a very good production compared to some other gore films like BAD TASTE, but I think the bloodest film has to go to DEAD ALIVE.

Matter of fact I got the DVD for christmas and only got around to watching it last week (I was sort of going through a Giant monster trend because of all the Gamera DVD's I got.) I had a good time watching it. I've heard that it's based off a japanese comic book and if you watch the trailer on the DVD I have they show several comic book to movie comparasion of several characters. The art style and violence reminds a lot of "Fist of the North Star" but sadly the comic hasn't been translated over here.

This is what the live action "Fist of the North Star" should have been.

I remember when my friend told me he bought this for 10 dollars at his school I was like "I heard about this from badmovies.org!". Shameless plug for this fine site. When I saw it I was not disappointed one bit.

Story of Ricky is one of my favorite movies.  It will dissapoint kung0fu purists (seeing as how there is no fancy kung0fu work at all). But the gore is amazing. and that fat kid was hilarious. I wear my Story of Ricky shirt all the time too to show off how much of a fan I am, man this movie 0wns.

dudeman:

Yeah, Huang Chaun/Rogan (Yukari Ã"shima) looked like the only character that  knew how to use martial arts, Taizan/Tarzan and the Warden just hit stuff and the needle guy just threw needels but the gore made me forget that they weren't using very much in martial arts.

hi daveblackeye15, you're sure right, Story of Ricky is based of a popular Japanese Manga (Japan's cheap, throwaway comics). Ichi the Killer is also from a popular manga.

My daughter watched THE STORY OF RICKY with me and she made the immediate connection between the film and manga/anime stories and action.

It must be interesting being a teenager and dad is the one who watches the weird movies. When I was younger (ahem...like only a few years ago...ahem) I was the one who watched zombies, chainsaw killers and slashers (you know, all the good guys), and my parents probably thought they were trash movies (and in some instances they were right). Of course, I still watch all those movies, and my family still thinks they are trash (and in some instances, they are still right).

Funny, because the actor who plays Ricky is supposedly quite skilled at martial arts.  He was in a Hong Kong tv series called Northern Leg, Southern Fist with Moon Lee (I think).  Haven't seen this movie yet, though.
