I think the suit is going to have to grow on me. I assume Singer is going for a less cartoony look. I'll say one thing, Brandon Routh does look beefy enough for the part.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I don't know, it looks pretty traditional to me, except for the 3-D rubber emblem (that sort of thing seems to be compulsory these days). I was worried when you said they were going for a different look. Nice to see he's going with his own physique. A super-powerful alien like Superman doesn't need freaky-big cartoon muscles, just an impressive build.

I was just glad I didn't see Nick Cage in that costume as the reports/rumors had been years ago.
Overall the suit doesn't look too bad other than it has a rubbery or vinyl look to it. Superman wasn't ever really one of my heros (sure, I liked Superman enough to buy comics now and then) so some minor changes won't hurt me too bad. Not like what they did to Batman a few years ago...good lawd!

The suit looks good to me expect for the size of the shorts, what the hell!? *URK!*

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

Bandit Keith from Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series (episode 12)

Alan Smithee

It's okay. Nothing too radically different. The blue spandex has that scaled look of the Tobey Maguire Spider-man. The suit looks like a throwback to the really early Superman.

But that cape looks like a shower curtain.

Other than that, the actor doesn't look to fit the bill. Too scrawny, and his head doesn't look quite like Supes/Clark Kent head.

Frankly, I just laugh at the fact that he's around 2 1/2 years younger than Tom Welling (Smallville).

Is my color off or are his boots and shorts brown? How dull..the magnificent red cape is just a must. The shorts btw are a little small, they look like the lowrider boycuts they sell in the teen department but those have varied from movie to show. And do we need an S on the front of the suit AND on the belt? Also another weird thing for me is the boots don't come up high enough and make him look odd. They kinda remind me of these rubber boots my ken doll had that were short, i hated them and pulled them off and were never able to get them back on his feet again, so ken was always barefoot. But i digress......

The cape i have a problem with, what is that...vinyl with crush velet lining? I'd love to see how he manages to tuck that into his everyday clothes.

I love superman, my image of him from comics and tv has always been a man with a large upper build, this guy should spend a little more time at the gym. He needs to ooze "man of steel"..superman is overpowering, he's a force to be reckoned with. Plus Reeve is the guy, he had that 'something'. Doubtful i'll pay to see this one

Sorry, but I'm not going to be pessimistic about this one. Brian Singer is directing and I hope he can do this justice like he did for the X-Men.

Christopher Reeve was tall, but he was not a big guy. He had gain about 25 lbs to play the part. . His hair had to be dyed. What made the part was his acting. He could actually make you believe that a pair of glasses ,parting your hair different, changing your posture would fool people.

I don't think supes should look like a body builder, the size of his muscles ain't why he's strong. I'll give Mr. Routh his chance. If you have seen the World's Finest short, you will know that some muscle head won't fit the bill. I do like the guy that plays Supes in the Grayson short. He's older and lean, but in very good shape.

The thing about wearing tights is they are very unforgiving, and can border on the ridiculous. I'd rather see someone in good shape in tights than see Superman in a rubber body suit with built in muscles.

The suit I won't know about until I see it on the big screen, sometimes the lighting in photos don't do this stuff justice.  It is reminiscent of the old suit in the comics. He will also be wearing a black suit (supposed to be his space duds) like the one the clone wore after the Death of Superman comic.

I always wondered how 70s Superman got those muscles. To get ripped like that, don't you have to lift something that's HARD for you to lift? I think he only breaks a sweat when he's pushing planets into different orbits.

Kory

Heloooooooo nurse!  Where did they find him?

Master Blaster

I agree. He's too freakin young. I've always thought of Superman as a guy in his mid 30's with a tough square jaw, not some pasty homoerotic prettyboy teenager. But that's what people want nowdays I suppose. At least their letting an unknown play the part rather than going the safe route with an established star.

Master Blaster

I'd hit it if I was in jail long enough.

LH-C

Yeah, this guy is too young, but remember Reeve was only 25 when Superman was filmed, even if he did look older.

LH-C

Kory - all I know about the guy is that he used to play a guy named Seth on One Life To Live. And the only reason I know that is because he was on during the last time I watched the show a few years ago.
