I was "treated" to some unpleasant nudity on this week's The Shield on FX. An attractive woman? NO. A tasteful heterosexual love scene? NO. It was a shot of two men gettin busy in prison, shot from behind, with a full view of a guy's ass.

Wasn't the first notorious shot on NYPD Blue of a guy's ass? It's always a guy's ass and usually not a very good one as far as that goes. Seems like female nudity is usuall a side shot (no nipples) or half an ass. (It seems female nudity is always "half-assed".) Family Guy gets on my nerves but wasn't there some hullabaloo over nudity and wasn't it a guy's _ _ _?

Is it ever a woman's rear on a tv show? I know things like Bravo sometimes show movies with bits left in. But tv shows seem to love the guys' asses.

I think there has been some woman's butt on NYPD Blue, very briefly.  The guy whose ass it was was Dennis Franz's.  I only read about it, hadn't watched the show since season 1 or 2.
There have been some full frontal scenes on shows such as Holocaust, but people stripping down to be gassed doesn't appeal to prurient interests (unless you are very, very sick, and not in a good way either.)

Didn't Hill Street Blues show a guys' ass too?

Maybe it's that "reverse objective nudity" or whatever I learned about in film appreciation 101. It's just weird though. You get all these sex scenes with nothing as if nudity in a bedroom context is wrong but then they'll really force it into non-sexual situations, like a photograph in an interrogation.

I don't think Hill Street Blues showed any asses.  It was the '80s, afterall.

The t.v. show Sirens had a chick's butt in it once.

National Geographic on PBS used to have boobs in it...ha-ha!

I thought the old guy mooned someone in the last season?

Ozzymandias

One of the doctors on St. Elsewhere told someone to "kiss my @$$" and then he mooned the guy.  That's what you were thinking of.

Yes, it is virtually always a guy's bum that they show on TV. Don't ask me why I don't have the slightest idea. I still can't believe that it's okay to show someobdy KILLING somebody, but it's TABOO to show a woman nursing her baby.

I think Rob Schnieder as The Sensitive Naked Man on SNL was the first bare butt man on regular TV. It was pretty funny.
