When someone mentioned Debbie Does Dallas in the Road Warrior thread [I forget how it came about, but anyways...let's not get into the details] I just had to mention this silly theatre musical I saw earlier this year.

Yes, that's right, a stage musical based on the 'cult classic' Debbie Does Dallas.

My girlfriend bought two tickets and off we went to see what was a very funny, very well written, and extremely tongue-in-cheek musical.

The main selling point is the fact that instead of sex scenes they have a musical number [so of course there are alot of musical numbers]

Before you get all excited I should point out that there was no actual nudity, although all the actors and actresses do often run around in skimpy outfits for much of the musical.

There are so some very classy musical numbers, such as 'ten dollars' [Debbie's short song after being offered ten dollars to show some shop owner her breasts] to 'another ten dollars' [Debbie's follow up song for being offered another ten dollars to allow him to feel her breasts]

Also the 'dancing' is very well done, especially various 'orgy' numbers.

Overall a very funny musical which my girlfriend and I enjoyed very much!  Very highly reccommended for a fun night out.

Here's some links to some reviews of Debbie Does Dallas the Musical:

A friend of mine went to see that one, too.  He enjoyed it very much as well.  Mind you, I had all paid up to see The Goodies, so DdoesD had to take a 'backseat'.

Well I hope that was just as good and I'm ignoring the backseat comment :-P

Although there probably has been a few, what other cult film based musicals are out there?

I remember someone telling me once about the existence of an Evil Dead musical which is an interesting idea, I wonder how it works.

There is a stage version of Rocky Horror.  Also that giant man eating plant movie was originally a play (IIRC).  Even though The Producers was more mainstream than B movie, it's gone from movie to musical and now back to a new movie.

And if you are going to ignore the backseat comment I guess I will also ignore the tongue-in-cheek line. . .

Oh, the Goodies was great.  If you are a fan of the series you would have loved it.  They had fielded a number of questions from Australian fans and structured the show like a Q&A session.  One of the Goodies would read out a question and they'd talk a bit, then play a segment to illustrate their answers.

Questions ranged from 'did you do your own stunts' to 'what was you most painful memory of working on the show', which, oddly enough, seemed to overlap in answer!  They showed many of their most  well-known segments, like the chase scene from The Movies, the giant kitten scene, etc.  Audience members would often yell out the names of segments and episodes before they even came on.

They also did some live sketches, which were amalgams of a few sketches.  The highlight of the show for me was Graeme wheeling out a table laden with boxes, and then giving little educational speeches about the 'gentle forest animals' contained in each.  Of course, the 'Mongolian Vampire Bat' was in the last box...

At the end they did a audience-participant 'Funky Gibbon' rendition.  Loads of fun and a great night.  I was VERY glad to have seen them, given that I'm a Goodies fan from waaaayyy back.
