Did anyone else watch the AFI tribute to George Lucas? These things are usuallly an little more entertaining than the run of the mill awards show.

One of the high spots of the night were William Shatner doing a Shatnerized version of "My Way" with the Your substituted for My. He began talking about Start Trek and then acts as though he just got mixed up (and a couple of Storm Troopers started to drag him off stage). While doing the song he was joined by a chorus line of Storm Troopers who carried him off stage when he was finished. His parting words to George were "Live long, you've already prospered enough!"

Carrie Fisher was also very funny telling how George ruined her life. Harrison Ford asked Lucas and Speilberg to make up their minds about Indiana Jones 4 or "Sean will be too old to play my father.".

Most of the show was the usual heaping on of praise.  As much as Lucas get criticised it has to be admitted that he did change film making and a lot of the movies we enjoy now could not have been made without the innovations he inspired.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I saw that and thought Shatner was very funny. When he walked out at the start of the show Harrison Ford and George Lucas had these looks on their faces that said: "WTF?!" They looked like they had no idea why he was there. It was all very funny. When the first words out of Shatners mouth was "Star Trek changed everything." I knew it was probably going to be a wonderfull put-on and it was.

I was actually planning on putting my distain for Lucas aside for one night to watch this tribute, but something unexpected came up and I missed it. Maybe I'll catch a rerun of it. And hopefully that rerun will be enhanced somehow. lol

George: "I enjoyed the tribute, but it wasn't everything I thought it could be, so I zinged it up a bit at Skywalker Ranch."

Shatner's a badass. I still remember when he tried to make out with the weakest link host on national TV. That was awesome.
