CREEPSHOW: George A. Romero, you are THE GREATEST!

Now that we cleared up our arguments on the "Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing" opinions, it's time for us to veer off that subject and return to what we talk about most here on this website. Yes, bad movies. So what's the topic for today? CREEPSHOW, from director George Romero. CREEPSHOW is definately a good movie, not a bad movie but a good one.

CREEPSHOW offers five tales of horror by Stephen King (who also stars in the second tale). The  best out of the five are "Something To Tide You Over With" and "The Crate".

"Something To Tide You Over With" features a GREAT prformance by Leslie Neilson as a demented, but highly likeable, wacko who knocks off his wife Gayleen Ross (from DAWN OF THE DEAD) and her secret lover Ted Danson. But, the two lovers come back to life to get revenge on Neilson. Great atmosphere and an excellent sense of humor.

"The Crate" is about school professor Fritz Weaver finding a crate underneath the school stairs. Would you believe the crate is from an Artic exploration crew from 1834? Would you believe that the crate is all chained up and the top is nailed down? Would you believe a carnivorous Yeti-like beast lives in the crate? Weaver does, and his pal Hal Hollbrook decides to feed it his drunken ass wife Adrienne Barbeau! Truely a perfect example of black comedy.

The other three were nothing special, but these two ARE THE BEST. Romero also uses bright red and blue lighting whenever something horrifying happens and cartoon backgrounds to give it that comic book feeling. Not only that, but Romero uses three music scores that he used in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (yes, I can tell that is the music he used). Good work, Romero.

These are my previous  http://www.badmovies.org/bbs2/read.php?f=2&i=9066&t=9026>comments in regards to Creepshow from the nuke posts.  I'll say again that I love Creepshow, "They're Creeping Up on You" (aka the Cockroach Episode) is my personal favorite.  The first two stories are the weakest.  They're not bad, just weak.  I'll even admit to having a soft spot in my heart for Creephsow 2, The Raft being my favorite story in that movie, although it does suffer a bit from TV Directors Syndrome in the pacing department.  I had the original poster (Laurel Version, not Warners) and the soundtrack, which I wore down listening to again and again.  Why hasn't Varese Sarabande released their older library inventory on CD yet?  I'd love to get their releases from Creepshow, The Howling, Tourist Trap, Deadly Friend, April Fool's Day, Piranha, etc. back into my library.  Perhaps a serious e-mail campaign?

Creepshow, a classic b-movie (please note, Romero 'discovered' Ed Harris, who had his first big role in Knightriders).

They're Creeping Up On You is awesome! That and The Crate are the best ones. As for Creepshow 2... I LIKED IT!! Not quite up there with the first one but it is a good fallow-up. The Raft made me feel uneasy about lakes for years! If I were that guy I would of just gotten the LIVING HELL outa there!

I love horror anthologies in general, but Creepshow is my absolute favourite.

I agree that The Crate and They're Creeping Up On You are the two best segments, but I have to admit to having a soft spot for The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verill. Stephen King's over-the-top performance as a half-witted hillbilly, along with some pretty decent jokes, made it a lot of fun.
