I just finished watching the first "Stargate SG-1" episode featuring Ben Browder as "Mitchel" (also known as "John" on "Farscape"). It also had Claudia Black as "Varla" (also known as "Aeryn" on "Farscape"). Overall, it was a weak episode, plotwise, but the character banter was very enjoyable.

You'd have to be a fan of both "Stargate" and "Farscape" to appreciate this in-joke, but I thought Varla's (Claudia) comment about her pregnancy was especially funny. She told Daniel Jackson there's a one-in-ten chance the baby might be his- but she said it while winking in Mitchel's (Ben's) direction, somewhat referencing to the baby that Aeryn and John had together on "Farscape".

I loved "Farscape" but have never warmed to the Stargate franchises. Now it feels like that not only did I lose my show, but that the show that I didn't like has taken assimilated it Borg-style. I'm glad Browder and Black are working, but not sure if thios is enough to induce me to watch this show this far in.

I'm with you on this one.  I loved Farscape; I thought the writing and stories were great and  the acting and interplay was fun to watch.  Stargate has seemed ok, never really grabbed me but not bad to watch if I happen to find it.  Good to see Ben and Claudia working together, but not sure if I could quite watch the two of them without being taken out of the moment in thinking "John and Aeryn".

I liked Claudia Black in "Pitch Black" because her character was not the same as Aeryn so it wasn't jarring.

Would be interesting to see a cameo of Anthony Simcoe sans makeup :)

But the seriel nature of Stargate would make it a bit difficult to get into this far in, as you said

I've tried the marathons SciFi does from time to time, and even when it airs in local syndication on weekends (it seems to come on about a half dozen times between about three broadcast stations on my cable), just never could get into it even when a buddy who was a huge fan tried to get me up to speed on the storylines. Oh well.

But I'd watch for a Anthony Simcoe guest shot, or Virginia Hey out of Zhann make-up. Always did have a crush on the Warrior Woman from "The Road Warrior".

The season premier was sort of a pilot. They have to introduce the new characters and give them a back story. They had to show a lot of flashbacks for Browder's character and establish that General Landry (Beau Bridges) has a history with Jack O'Neill.

How'd you like the 10 second intro after the teaser scene? SciFi asked them to reduce the intro from 1 minute to 10 seconds on SG-1 and Atlantis so they could sell more advertising. These two shows and BSG are their highest rated shows.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I missed the very beginning of the show, so I didn't see it. It's cool if you're buying the DVDs (not having to deal with those long intros over and over again)- but if you're watching it on TV it doesn't do much for you, trading one waste of time for another. Now if they added that extra time to the show that would be great.

Actually the syndicated version and the DVD's will feature the 1 mintue montage.

All they show is the gate opening, zipping through the worm hole to a picture of the cast.,

Mr. Hockstatter

I thought the first episode was pretty good, but the one they showed last night was pretty weak.  Didn't they have a nearly identical plot in another recent episode?  I love Crichton and Aeryn - they're the kick in the pants the show needed.  And the fact that they're basically playing their Farscape characters is great as far as I'm concerned.  I was also surprised to see Lexa Doig (Andromeda from Andromeda, also the main character in Jason X) show up as the doctor last night.  Very cool.  She did a great job.

I'm sure I'll keep watching.  Lets hope the plots get a bit more interesting.
