*spoilers to what little we know for sure about S-M 3 .*

I've just finished reading The Essential Spider-Man Vol.4 so that means I've become very interested in the web slinger once again.

All right. The debate has been going on for months now (not here though) on who the villian or perhaps villians will be for S-M 3.

A picture was released months ago that seems to confirm that The Sandman (yeah!) will be in the movie.

If you havn't seen this picture take a look.

So I'm happy that there's a good chance that the Sandman is appearing, I like him. But people seem determined that there will be another villian with him.

Most say it'll be Venom, some think it's the Lizard (it's not impossible), maybe the Green Goblin will return (not impossible either).

Now I'm not asking who you THINK it'll be. I'm asking who you WANT it to be?

For me, the Lizard would be kind of neat, but since he's so tough I kind of want him be the main villian but at the same time not mess up the Sandman's screen time.

For the longest time I thought the Vulture was a pretty lame villian. However upon reading Essential Spider-Man #3, specifically issues #64 and #65 I must conclude that the Vulture can be bad-ass dude! There's something I kind of like about teaming the Vulture with the Sandman. I don't know why.

The Scorpion, like the Lizard, he'd be neat to see but I'd want him as the main fighting villian. Maybe hired by some powerful mob boss but the point would be that the Scorpion would get a good one on one with Spidey. (y'know if Campbell were a bit younger I think he'd make a pretty good Scorpion.)

And I do want to see the Green Goblin return but not so soon, another movie.

I hope I'm not tossing a log into the fire with this.

Venom deserves his own movie.

I've always been kind of partial to Mysterio as a villian, although the Rhino or Vulture would be cool.

Wasn't the Hobgoblin supposedly the Green Goblin's son?

ToyMan

i've always thought that rhino was a pretty mediocre villain. vulture doesn't seem like he'd translate too well. eventually, they're going to get into the rut that the batman films did, where they've used all the best villains, so they need to double-up the s**tty ones to make up for how lacking they are.

Didn't Kirsten Dunst confirm they will be Venom, SAndman and the new Green Goblin?

This sort of thing is always interesting, because if you go by the movies, and their theme of 'all the bad guys have a connection with Peter Parker' I'd say that logically the Lizard would be the next choice of villain [since Venom really needs his own movie to himself.]

I say this because they've already set up Dr Connors in Spidey 2, so it would be nice and easy, and the story would be pretty simple and straightfoward to do as well, especially since most of the other villains [such as Sandman] aren't really on that grand a scale like Doc Ock, Green Goblin and Venom.  I mean wasn't Sandman, Vulture, Shocker and Rhino supposed to be pretty much petty crooks in the comics and not actually that smart, as in 'total domination through evil' smart?  Meh, it's all good really.

Either way I'd expect there to be some changes to what we know about the Spidey universe [which annoys me to a degree, but I actually think it's for the better] especially with the success of Spiderman Unlimited.

Anyways, personally I'd like to see a set up in Spidey 3 for Venom to be in number 4, the added extra of Black Cat, since they wanted her in the second one but decided not to.  Buy and play Spiderman 2 the game to see how it could have panned out, and I'd assume it will run fairly similar in number 3 if she's in it.  It has some good potential.

Also there's always the struggle of Harry that they set up in number 2 as well, which I think will be pretty good to watch [James Franco is actually pretty damn good in that role, I think at least].  Kind of a 'I'm going to struggle between my being loyal to my father, the villain, or my friend, the hero.

Either way, I'd expect lots of personal problems for old Peter Parker, since they really crammed that stuff in the last two movies.

Phew!  Can you tell I've been reading some Spiderman comics recently?

Are you guys retarded or what? KIRSTEN DUNST ALREADY SAID WHO THE VILLAINS WILL BE!

They will be SAndman, Venom and the Goblin.

The Burgomaster

I also read rumors that THE SANDMAN, VENOM, THE HOBGOBLIN  . . . AND . . . THE LIZARD would all be in it.  Let's hope the rumors are wrong . . . that's waaaaaaaay too many villains.

Venom need his own movie.  I mean, how can you explain a whacked out alien that replaces the spider suit, falls in love with Peter Parker then starts hating him AND duke is out with two other villians in one movie?  Or am I getting Venom's origin wrong?

I hadn't thought of Black Cat.  She made a great villian in the comic books, especially when she was doing the 'love shrine' thefts.  Why is it that a dweeb like Parker gets all these hot chicks to fall for him?

The Spider-Man movies have been quite good at feeding speculation by parading possibilities in front of us in the form of people like Doc Connors and Eddie Brock. The Lizard and Venom would both be good, although the Venom origin might have to be condensed to fit into a movie.

I agree that guys like the Rhino are unlikely as a main villain, just because they don't have the brains. Mysterio, on the other hand, would be pretty cool to see in a future movie. The Scorpion is another favourite of mine, and would certainly be a menacing presence.

I rather like the line-up of villains suggested for the third installment, although I was disappointed to see them already setting up Harry Osborne as the new Green Goblin. That means they'll continue the same subplots from the first two movies. I don't know about you guys, but I thought the second movie focused too much on Peter Parker's personal life -- with too little screen time for Doc Ock, my favourite Spidey villain. I thought the first was a much more balanced movie in that regard. I had mixed feelings about the second -- too much angst, too much Mary Jane, not enough fighting with the villain.
