Future of Movie Viewing

I think Netflick will leave stores like blockbuster serving nothing, but new releases soon. (maybe even close them)

A store simply can't hold every title ever made and a tv station can't seem to get the rights to all films and thats goes without saying the time to play the ones everyone wants to see at the right time of day.

Maybe if the internet can get more advanced and become what cable is then maybe there will be club memberships were you can view any movie ever made at anytime on any type of screen for a monthly club fee. Just image cable/internet both in advance stages bringing the whole library of film and tv and other oddities ever made,  on request.

With the possibility of anyone with the right software making there own mega movies for public viewing. Eliminating the major studios and the junk they put out.

Add that to a home theater system for viewers.

While I like Netflix a lot, I don't think they'll be giving Blockbuster a run for their money anytime soon.  I still go to Blockbuster for the mainstream releases, as the convenience is far greater.  It takes so long for the Netflix mailing process that I wouldn't want to take up any of the slots on my queue with movies that I can go down to the corner and pick up.

As for viewing movies on the internet, you can.  There are several sites such as Cinemanow.com that will let you pay to watch several full length movies.  Cinemanow also has several free movies.  However, unless you have a blazing fast internet connection, the quality is neglible compared to regular rentals.

Hey Blockbuster, Netflix, and home theatre systems are cool, but they will never beat the THEATRE GOING EXPERIANCE. They just aren't the same. Remeber what Joe Bob says, "The drive-thru will never die."

Scott

Its True Lee about both the theater and drive-ins. Drive-In shouldn't close because of money problems. They are an institution.

Lee

Damn straight! Some of my best moments at the movies happened at the drive-in. You can't have an experiance like that watching cable.

True. A few years back our local drive-in closed. It was the last one in the area, and the one where I saw a lot of great movies growing up, and went on almost a weekly basis the summer I graduated high school. Unfortunately, the city expanded far enough that the land became more valuable than the business, and it was sold to a developer for a residential subdivision. Very sad.

Now, I have about a 45-minute drive to the nearest drive-in, which does a good business because it's the last one for miles, and has had some money invested in radio sound. Thankfully, it's far enough out in the country to be safe for a while.

With the return to big, comfortable vehicles, like minivans and SUVs, and the appeal of nostalgia, I would think that drive-ins should be enjoying a resurgence. You can't beat watching movies in the fresh air, under the stars. Not to mention the increased food options and opportunities for privacy.

As a young (16) b-movie lover i've always wanted to go and see movies at a drive-in.  Problem is i live in the middle of nowhere. The nearest drive-in closed back in the 50's.  I'd love to see a return of drive-ins,  even better would be a return of good horror movies.  Just look at what my generation's being raised on; Valentine,  Scary Movie,  800 Scream remakes, etc..........  and this is the only crap blockbuster carries.  This is what's wrong with my generation.  Hell,  me and my friend Cisco are the only kids in school who've heard of the Sleep Away Camp series.  I need to stop...... I'm getting worked up into a rage.  arrivederci mia amici

Easy Pancho, I know how you feel. Your getting me all riled up also and ready to go on a b-movie crusade. It wouldn't take much to put me on the warpath. People with good taste are hard to find Pancho. The world is full of clueless people. Atleast here we can find refuge.

Thanks Scott.  I'll try and calm down,  deep breaths and all that stuff.  Just hard sometimes when the only way to see a quality movie is to pay 10-15 bucks to buy it online and then wait for it to be shipped out.  I'm glad i found this site
