The Young Ones had one of my all-time favorite comedy moments.

At the end of one scene, the camera inexplicably zooms in on an apple sitting on a shelf.  It turns out the apple is a puppet, and it says "don't look at me, I'm irrelevant!"

Imagine that happening in an American sitcom.

Well, the only thing that sort of comes close is Family Guy.  They make great use of asides and non sequiturs.  I wouldn't be suprised to learn that the writers of Family Guy are big fans of The Young Ones.

One of my favorte asides is when Neil is digging a grave for himself and almost breaks through to an underground land where nothing boring ever happens.  "Bored" is a great episode!   Thumbup

Thank you El Dogo, I remembered the quote, but not what said it. I used to love those asides in TYO. The carrot and something else skating on a plate until one is crushed:

"John, do you think you could ever love a cripple?"
"No, I don't think so."

Or the male and female ends of a plug and socket talking:

"How was it for you?"
"Electric!"
