I rented and watched this last night and it was enjoyable. I am not a demanding movie viewer, predictability doesn't bother me too much, all I ask is that the film entertain me, and this one did.
It picks up right after last year's remake ended with the Army setting up motion sensors in its old nuclear testing ground in order to catch the Cannibal Atomic Mutants who have apparently been preying on stray tourists for years. In the film's opening minutes, the scientific crew planting the sensors and their Army guardians are taken out by the CAM's. Meanwhile, a group of National Guard reservists and their grizzled, tough as nails black drill sargeant are finishing up a training exercise and preparing to run some supplies out to the scientific crew. They find everyone gone, hear mysterious voices on the radio, see a signal mirror flashing on a nearby hill, and go to investigate. Mayhem ensues as the CAM's do their thing and the Reservists find themselves in full combat mode!
All in all, this is one of the better CAM flicks I have seen in awhile. I watched the unrated version, and the gore is very graphic and realistic looking. The mutants are pretty nasty, especially the big one called Papa. There is only a tad bit o skin, not from either of the female leads, but more random acts of violence than you can shake a stick at. Overall, worth the price of rental but not one I would buy for myself. It did contain a preview for WRONG TURN II, which looked like a better movie. The original WRONG TURN is probably my favorite Cannibal Hillbilly movie of all time!
