The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

I've seen some of the Sci-Fi movies recently, but I don't think they're "Sci-Fi Channel" movies.  Some were Boo, SabreTooth, Mortuary, and Beast of Bray Road.

Granted, all were pretty terrible.  But I liked watching them.  Had my own MST3K type of commentary going on them.
Wasn't Mortuary directed by Tobe Hooper?

I know for a fact that Beast of Bray Road was an Asylum picture.  Sci Fi, when they're not running giant animal/killer weather movies have signed some kind of infernal pact with those guys to broadcast their trash.  God help us all if they ever decide to air Transmorphers.
Yeah, Tobe did Mortuary.  It wasn't bad.  Considering it looked like a lower budget flick.

Bray Road was an Asylum pic.  The design for the wolf was okay, but the acting was wooden and it was like people just wandered onto the set, and they were like, "Here's $50 if you say this to that guy."

There is a Snakes on A Train.

Came out in August 2006, by The Asylum.  I've not had the pleasure of watching it, but have seen the dvd in stores.

I`m just waiting for "Boa vs Python" 2 & 3.  BTW, can the CGI effects on these Sci Fi channel original movies get any WORSE!  I realize that these movies can not afford to hire Industrial Light & Magic to do the effects but WOW! Does anyone in production even watch the finished movies or they just don`t care?  Anyway they are good for a few laughs if nothing else is on.

I came as close to enjoying THE BEAST OF BRAY ROAD, at least more than any other recent Sci-Fi flick. The werewolf design was really different than any other I've seen. It actually looked a bit feline to me. Like you point out, the big drawback was the terrible performances. It was really funny how that one surviving hillbilly brother completely lost his redneck accent the moment he joined up with the heroes.
If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

I enjoyed it, despite the drawbacks to it.  At the very least, if you see it again, you can always do your own MST3K type commentary.  That's what I end up doing.  Yeah, I noticed that accent change at the end too.  I've seen worse.  Not much, but I've seen worse.

I really liked Beast Of Bray Road.  It had a nice undercurrent of low-key humor that worked for me.  The identity of the werewolf took me completely by surprise and I thought that was great as well.

Last week I actually watched that vampire movie of theirs all the way to the end;  That's the first time I've watched a Sci-Fi Original all the way through in about a year.  Of course I was fairly drunk at the time   With most of their movies, I realize by the 15 minute mark that I couldn't care less if all the characters died and that pretty much destroys any motivation I might have had to continue watching.

The identity of the wolf took me off too.

SabreTooth was an odd one too.  It starred Vanessa Angel and a bunch of people I've never heard of.  She was able to take a Sabretooth Tiger fossil, and somehow clone it so a real sabretooth existed today.

Nonetheless, it escapes, hides in the mountains and slowly but surely starts killing people off.  The cgi sabretooth was hilarious.  Especially for the upclose shots, because they'd incorporate a mountain lions head into it, so it goes back and forth between the two.

I think that while a lot of the Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday night movies are really pretty bad, there are probably some that each of us has enjoyed for a variety of reasons. As Stephen King says, "You wade through a lot of drek to find a few gems." One man's drek is another man's cinematic masterpiece, or at least a fun movie, and I have a short list of Sci-Fi Channel films I've enjoyed, some may not be Sci-Fi originals, but I saw each one on the Sci-FI Saturday movie.
In no particular order here's my list:
Dog Soldiers
Monster
Kaw
Frankenfish
Dinocroc
Abominable
Manthing
Webs
Mammoth
Dragon Fighter
Not a long list for 5 years of watching, but still I liked these films and have watched them again when they've been on.

So, FrankenFish is worth watching?

I was gonna watch, but just reading the title was like, "Ehhh, maybe some other time."

A better title would have been something like Jaws on the bayou or something similar. This is a pretty good movie in my opinion, if you get a chance to see it I'd be interested in your thoughts on the movie.

Well, they seem to pop it in the schedule every couple of weeks, so I'm certain I'll be catching it eventually.

That's got the dude from Starship Troopers, right?

Do keep in mind that a good number of their "original" movies weren't actually produced specifically for their channel. More often than not, the decent ones (Frankenfish, Abominable, Dog Soldiers) were not technically Sci-Fi Channel originals.

As for the stuff coming up in the next month or so:

SOLAR ATTACK came out on DVD late last year. Okay flick. MY REVIEW

I did my June Foyeurism on a Russian DVD release of HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE - full plot breakdown and stills galore. Believe it or not, it's worse than HIGHLANDER 2: THE QUICKENING - and not in a fun way either. HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE FOYEURISM

MEGA SNAKE is one I've been following for awhile now, done a couple stories about it on Dread Central. This article should tell everyone everything they need to know.

Now if you're curious about what are some of the Sci-Fi Channel originals you'll be seeing between now and 2008, here's a couple links:

LINK 1 - Killer Animals Galore

LINK 2 - LOCH NESS TERROR (Set in Canada?)

LINK 3 - CRY OF THE WINGED SERPENT

LINK 4 - Myths, Legends, & Lit!

And if you loved LAKE PLACID 2 then brace yourselves for BATS: HUMAN HARVEST. Yes, they actually made a sequel to BATS!
NOW SHOWING IN FOYEURISM:
GOLDEN BAT - Feast your eyes on the wildest, wackiest, funkiest, Chiba-est Japanese superhero movie you've probably never heard of

If you're thinking of Casper van Dien, he's not in this one, he's in one of the giant snake movies, think it might have been King Cobra, the snake eats him.
