The thing that I love so much about the metal genre is that it's one of the very few that has so many distinguishable sub-genres within it.

You have thrash, speed, death, grindcore, doom, power, black, hair to name some of the more prominent ones.
Yeh, but what about HEAVY METAL?   :teddyr:

I dunno if they count as metal, but I'm really diggin on Juliette and the Licks too.

Growing up, I thought Twisted Sister were cool and bad-ass. Of course I was only 10-11 at the time. Still like them though. And Van Halen and Motley Crue.

Nowadays I find I tend to lean towards 70s metal: Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Alice Cooper.  Also loved Motorhead, Scorpions and some Bon Jovi. Seem to recall a Canadian band called Killer Dwarfs...wondering if I'm the only one who remembers them?

The Dwarfs were awesome!  Theres a few videos on youtube, and I actually have them on myspace.
The guys are just a bunch of normal guys.  It's cool

While we're on the topic of Canadian metal.  What about Exciter?  Violence and force or Unveiling the Wicked anyone?

Shadow

Karma for mentioning Exciter! I loved that band. Those two albums you listed were played over and over and over in my room. :teddyr:

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Exciter was a great band. I some of their stuff on vinyl growing up.

 Thank you sir.  Karma to you and Torgo for not going "Who?"
I had these two, and Heavy Metal Maniac, and Long live the Loud.

I played the snot out of this band, Venom, Raven, Meliah Rage, Heathen...all on top of the usual suspects like Maiden, Priest, Metallica B.S.
I'm curious...Should I start posting videos for some of this stuff?  Just for the nostalgia factor?

I used to have Helloween and Heathen on vinyl. Then again, I used to have a lot of stuff that has gone missing over the years. :bluesad:

I really wanted to see Iron Maiden on their 12 date tour that they did late last year here in the US but they didn't come anywhere close to where I live.  Their most recent album A Matter of Life of Death was excellent.  Was it as great as their classic stuff from the 80's?  Well, no.  I wasn't expecting it to be. however, they still keep releasing pretty high quality music.

Oh yeah, some cool old school metal news.

Testament signed with Nuclear Blast records and they went into the studio at the end of August to beging recording their follow up to 1999's The Gathering  (which was fantastic BTW).

I think that they already had most of the songs written already for the new one so I'm hoping that it won't take too long get it released.
