Yes, I have an 8-track HDD recorder and a bunch of things. Sounds like you maybe want a sound interface for your PC, are your mics stick mics or condenser? What cables do you have as well, what are the connectors each end XLR or jack.

I remember the tape multitracks that recorded 4 mono tracks being about when I was a kid, that was cool. Not sure why you would want a recording system independent of a computer these days, unless you had a bunch of analog synths or something and wanted to make a really authentic record. The one I have now is like a 40gb hard drive that records in 48khz 24-bit *I think* I forget the specs exactly because I haven't used it in ages, from a band perspective it was quite useless because it only has 2 simultaneous recording channels at a time but for me at the time it was good. Then I moved over to a digital audio workstation soon after (renoise) and I haven't use it much since. Getting a mixing desk here tomorrow so I perhaps can find a use for it in the new setup.

I just use Reaper on my PC.  For a stand-alone unit, all I can say is a friend of mine has a Boss BR-800 that's he's really happy with.  My last stand-alone recorder was a Zoom digital 4 tracker and that always worked great.  I could sync up my drum machine with it via MIDI too.  But those things are hundreds of dollars Reaper is $60 and has infinitely more features and flexibility, and all your downloadable plug-ins, amp sim's, drum programs etc. integrate seamlessly with it.

After a quick look at this I have some concerns: there are quite a few free or cheap pieces of software similar to this, all of which I've tried over the years have been an odd mix of "Easy but professional" which rarely works properly as a compromise. If LC doesn't want to cut anything, use MIDI or even do more than 1 take per track you may as well go simpler but functional like Audacity. On the other side of things, how well this thing works as a full blown DAW I am skeptical about as well, the industry standard for that type of sequencing/interface is Cubase maybe Sony Acid at a slightly lower level. For horizontal block based you have Reason which is good but no 3rd party support, FL which is extremely popular but frankly kinda convoluted and inefficient UI wise. I don't think LC is but if you are looking to make music in anything more advanced than a straight multitrack way I recommend taking a bit more time learning a tracker like Renoise so you have way more centralised control over your production, better off in the long run. Anyway just my 2 cents at the end of the day use what you are comfortable with.
