It really shouldn't but sometimes a bit of Schadenfreude really brightens up my day.

If it helps, it really makes me sad to hear that.

Schaudenfried is taking shameful delight in the suffering of others.  I don't take delight in the suffering of  the poor and needy,  I don't take delight in seeing a good person  suffer.

I do like seeing karma slap powerful, arrogant,  mean peolle down hard. So I don't  see that as shameful.

The paranoia and acceptance of conspiracy theories in America today is unreal. On another forum I read, people are suspicious about the notion that dentists could manipulate x-ray photos to show cavities where there are none to make business for themselves. I don't understand how people can live with a worldview like that, it would seem hellish to me.

Actually, you are wrong on what you think Schadenfreude is. It most often occurs in human males when they see someone they feel deserves to take a fall getting their just deserts. In other words, exactly what you describe as not being Schadenfreude.

To wit
QuoteA 2006 experiment about justice served suggests that men, but not women, enjoy seeing "bad people" suffer. The study was designed to measure empathy, by watching which brain centers are stimulated when subjects observed via fMRI see someone experiencing physical pain. Researchers expected that the brain's empathy center of subjects would show more stimulation when those seen as "good" got an electric shock than would occur if the shock was given to someone the subject had reason to consider "bad". This was indeed the case, but for male subjects, the brain's pleasure centers also lit up when someone got a shock that the male thought was "well-deserved"

In this particular case, I was feeling it after hearing how someone who has spent their life doing their best to ruin other people's lives isn't doing so well themselves and is now struggling with the same problems they have caused in others.

When I was a kid singing Jingle Bells, I used to try to reconcile the jolliness of a Christmas carol with the sudden inclusion of praise for a "slaying song" and was left wondering what that was about.
