When you go to rent a movie, maybe some cheesy low budget piece of crap, and you put it in only to discover you've already SEEN IT????

I have been on a zombie kick for awhile lately.  I like zombie movies, not a lot of plot to get in the way of the action, and some of them are surprisingly good.  So I spotted this flick called RISE OF THE DEAD and rented it, even though something was clicking in the back of my head.  And sure enough, I watched it about three months ago.  Even wrote a review of it on here, I think.  There are just so many low budget zombie movies that they all run together after awhile.

Lordy, what an idiot I am.

I do this too on occasion, usually with the DVDs from the Scf-Fi channel. I see the box, the title is familiar and if I'm not thinking about it I rent it, get it home, put it in the player and hear my wife say "I couldn't believe you watched this on TV, now you rented it, you're something else!"

Something along those lines:
The family was driving someplace and my mom starts telling me about this movie that she say the night before (any bad movies my family find are instantly reported to me ) about killer leeches on steroids. It didn't click until she said "killer leeches on steroids, swimming team and guys in speedos" at which point I painfully said, "Oh god, I saw that movie." It was a bad film but I somehow watched the whole thing, don't remember the what the whole plot was, though.

I rented this film, couldn't get through it, watched it again on one of the cable channels, have to agree with you, this one is pretty awful.

I run into this now and then with alternate titles.  Most recently, it was "She Wolves of the Wasteland" - which is actually "Phoenix the Warrior."  Not that I was unhappy to finally have a DVD of that film, its just that the title change caught me off guard.

LOL, that one got me too Andrew.  I odered it, thinking I'd found a previously unheard of post-apocalyptic '80s cheesefest, but was pretty happy with Phoenix anyhow.  Hadn't seen it in decades.  Funny how the badness of it stuck in my mind all those years, I remembered a whole pile of scenes from it, just because the dialogue and delivery was so off the wall.

I've bought vhs tapes and have encountered this problem.
Picked up a vido called HANDS of DEATH,,,a retitling of Al Adamson's NURSE SHERRI (1978)...and a few years later bought a tape called BLACK VOODOO-it came in one of them genric bos covers that describe very little on the back and no pics from the film...and insted of a blaxpliotation voodoo movie I was hoping for...it was-NURSE SHERRI-which is about some psycho white chick! Argh!
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)

you are not alone!! i have twice rented IT WAITS, since seeing it the first time. If you've seen it, you know its a complete mess. the plot ain't all that and the main actress is alot like watching paint dry, only not as interesting...

I do that more with books than movies.

But I did watch Secret Window with Johnny Depp a while back and absolutely loved it.  About a quarter way through I thought the story looked familiar, even though I knew I hadn't seen it before.

Then I realised it was a Stephen King story adaptation.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Man you jinxed me I just did that tonight with "Guardian of the Realm" I popped it in and watch about 10 minutes of it and said 'I've seen this crap before ... jeez!"

OK out it come and in goes a equally bad film "House of the Dead" a la Uwe Boll.

Ed, Ego and Superego

Thisis not QUITE topical, but years ago I spent months looking for a specific book (The 3 California series by Kim Stanley Robinson) .  I had read the first two and wanted to read the final one.  I scoured stores etc (This was pre Amazon).  I finally found it, paid too much and took it home.  Turns out I had read it on a train some years before and didn't remember the title.
