I was debating if I should put this here or in the "Good Movies" section.

Has anybody seen this movie?


It stars David Arquette, Scott Caan (James Caan's son), Oliver Platt, Martin Landau and Ahmet Zappa, amongst others.  David and Scott are hardcore wrestling fans who believe everything that happens in it is real, and their hero gets ousted as champ and fired, and they locate him in a trailer park dressed in drag, hiding from bill collectors. 

I thought it was downright hilarious.  It's an underrated flick.

No, you've put it in the right forum. Very much so. Even most of the wrestlers that appeared in this film were embarrassed by it.

I try to avoid any movie "starring" Mr. Courtney Cox.  But I did end up seeing this movie at a friend's house because a group of my friends love wrestling...I don't know why.  They like punk rock and horror movies and that kind of stuff but they have this weird obsession with wrestling.
He learned almost too late that man is a feeling creature... and because of it, the greatest in the universe........

Mr. Courtney Cox is kinda cool in a geeky way.  But yeah, I dunno.  I loved the movie.  Your friends sound fun.  My kinda crowd, horror, punk and wrestling.  Can't explain it.  Wrestling's fun.

I love this movie!   :thumbup:
If it's on TV, I'll usually watch it.  Haven't seen it in a while.

I thought it was a fun tribute movie to all those who love Pro Wrestling.
And I used to know guys who were totally obsessed with wrestling, just like the characters in the film.

How can you not love this opening scene?   :smile:

I love wrestling (go Undertaker!) and cannot stand this guy.  First of all David there destroyed the prestige of the WCW championship belt (well ok, maybe the bookers who came up with that idea did).  Well, let's just say his casting is enough to ruin the film for me just with his presence alone.

But as for this movie...any movie where the main characters stick their fingers up their own asses definitely belongs in the bad movies folder (whereas if it were someone elses, it would be debatable lol j/k).  But seriously, it's a good b-flick about a couple wrestling marks.  If I remember correctly, wrestlecrap has a great review of this one.

I believe WrestleCrap did review the movie.  Good site. 

Yeah, I believe David even told the writers at WCW that it was a bad idea for him to hold the belt, as he's been a fan of wrestling since the '80s, and attends the shows regularly.

I haven't seen it but it looks pretty awful. It's kinda stupid that WCW actually made David Arquette their world champion, but they went out of business shortly after so they learned their lesson.

They signed the deal for the movie in '97 when they were hot, but by the time the script and cast were finalized, the WWF/E had turned business around and kicked their ass.  Flair or Hogan didn't make an appearance in the flick.

It's the best scripted wrestling flick I've seen, as compared to No Holds Barred, Body Slam (which is so terrible it has to be seen to be believed.  Should be reviewed here.), etc.

The best wrestling movie by far is THE WRESTLER from 1973 although that movie is complete kayfabe (in that it presents wrestling as though it was all on the level). The funniest one though has got to be GRUNT: THE WRESTLING MOVIE.

I liked Beyond The Mat.  That's a documentary thing though.

As far as like, movies, Body Slam was fun.  How can you go wrong with a cast like Roddy Piper, Tanya Roberts, John Astin and Dirk Benedict?

I think Beyond the Mat and Bret Hart's Wrestling With Shadows are the only wrestling movies I've seen. I have a Japanese one called The Calamari Wrestler on DVD which looks like a lot of fun but I need to get a multiregion dvd player or go to my friend's house who has one before I'll see it.

Yes I heard those other wrestling movies were pretty bad.  We need more reviews of that type of crap :)  The funniest wrestling-related thing I have ever seen was called Stranglemania or something like that - it was basically barbwire/glass matches in Japan with "Cactus Sack, Yama-nama-numi, and Drunk Terry Flunk" with overdubbed commentary from the Insane Clown Posse.  It's pretty funny stuff.
