You can probably guess this is film noir.  As you might guess, it's from the 1950s.

Another hint?  This one is considered one of the more extreme 50s noir pics, as it had some not-so-subtle hints of homosexuality, a scene of torture, and another scene implying a sex act a little controversial in the 1950s.
