32.) A score had been written by ALEX NORTH for 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, but in the meantime, STANLEY KUBRICK had recordings of JOHANN STRAUSS and RICHARD STRAUSS, KHACHATURIAN and what then would have been called Avant Gard records of GYORGY LIGETI's music.  When he was reaching the editing stage, KUBRICK couldn't bear not to use the exact recordings he had listened to while filming and assembling the film.  KUBRICK's choice (which resulted in at least one lawsuit) seems perfect.

33.) Indiana Jones...
Are we tied for 33, or am I 34?  Afterall, JOHN WILLIAMS did both scores...  :teddyr:

37. Staying Alive [1983]

Known for the BeeGees tracks, but I prefer the other half of the soundtrack.

Rev. Powell

38. Superfly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmZjD2UWoso

Classic funky Curtis Mayfield cuts like "Superfly" and "Pusherman."  There's a brief snippet of Curtis singing "Pusherman" in the trailer.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

The Burgomaster

39.  On the heels of SUPERFLY, we must mention SHAFT
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Raffine

40. Jerry Goldsmith's shockingly avant-garde PLANET OF THE APES (1968).

Goldsmith used no electronic instruments; everything is acoustic. He even raided his wife's kitchen and used some of her metal bowls for insruments.

If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

JaseSF

"This above all: To thine own self be true!"

Raffine

42. NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) Bernard Herrmann

Hitchcock and MGM told Herrmann to write a nice light Gershwin-esque piece for the main titles - he gave 'em this!
