That doesn't make much sense, and if you at least have seen the movie, or remember that scene, could you make it a little more sensible?

I don't know whether you are suggesting that people went outside and were turned to stone, if they left running from something like that, or if the road was turning people to stone, or whatever.

Check out Monolith Monsters. I don't really have anything to base that on, as I can't make out what you mean, but it at least has people being turned to stone in it.

Also check out Return to Oz.  There's a scene with "The Deadly Desert".  If you leave the path and set foot in the desert, you turn to stone and crumble to dust.

The only "highway" flick that comes to mind is "Route 666" which involved people on the accursed highway battling teleporting zombies. No one turns to stone, but the zombies are all gray and dessicated and sorta look like they have stone skin.
