Though it's not one of my favorites, I liked "Attack" quite a lot. I have a feeling it turns people off because it is, in fact, too close to the material it spoofs! :teddyr: Added to the parody itself is plenty of grin-worthy absudity, though it was probably too sparse for some :P . I feel "Return" is more well-accepted because more are conscious of what it's mocking.

Yes, I actually like "Return" as well, spoofs cliched direct-to-video 80s films just like "Attack" goes after cliched limited release 70s films! I truly, truly hope the rumored remake actually follows the pattern of its predecessors and parodys... cliched 00s remakes!

For the latest on the fifth installment in Don Coscarelli's Phantasm saga.

I still dunno what annoyed me about "Attack". I got the jokes, I understood all the satire but something just bugged me.

Hmmm a remake I do wonder if that will be any good.

I love the original, and find the sequel much less entertaining.  However, it does make sense that if you did not like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" then you might like "Return."  The third (and following) in the series are different enough that it's a toss-up if you'll like those.  The remainder of the series are all more youth focused than the first two.

My issue with the orginal is it did not hold my interest. While I found parts funny other parts got annoying. It could have just been my mood when I first attempted to watch it.

The 2nd one it seemed like satire of a satire film its the Airplane/Naked Gun like style I enjoyed but was mainly won over by the other film joke and the product placement jokes.

Shame about the other two, it did look like it had decided to aim at a younger crowd but its hard to tell from the cover. O well its worth a shot I am sure I might a cheap laugh somewhere.
I quite liked both Attack and Return.  I have the third film, Killer Tomatoes Strike Back! on dvd.  More or less continues the plot of part 2, with Astin back as the good Dr. to get revenge and world domination.  I found it at Wal-Mart, packaged with Killer Klowns From Outer Space and Club Dread, in a "Trilogy of Terror" type set for $12.

Strike Back wasn't horrible, and I found myself laughing a bit.  Then again, movies like the Killer Tomato franchise are up in the air when it comes to your own taste.  The only major 'names' in the movie are John Astin and John Witherspoon, notable for his role in Friday.

Nice find. Killer Klowns From Outer Space I found more enjoyable than most the B movies I have watched. This could just because it seems to take everything to extreme B movie standards. The costumes where amazing you could see where most the budget went, with a town getting slaughtered with no loss of life for the group of heroes.

I might order the killer tomatoe 3-4 with my next course book orders. Even if I don't fully enjoy them they become perfect for B movie nights with mates if only I can talk a them into coming to one. LOL

I liked all 4, they're all just a bit different, not surprised people like some but not others. I liked the 3rd quite a bit, even with Rick Rockwell (He's a knucklehead). The beginning of the 4th was pretty good although I haven't seen it all, I liked what I did see.

I just finished watching Return and it's much better than the first.
FT is one cute tomatoe.

The first felt like satire of the series of creature movies pouring out and the second felt like satire of a film attempting to satire the series of creature movies. It was a nice film.

Still going to give the first a second shot.

I might just do the same. :teddyr:

I remember some very good scenes which at the time I laughed but did not find that entertaining more irrating. So it may be more enjoyable in a better mood.

Netflix has it, that's the only way I could get ahold of it. . .

I watched "Attack" today and it's better than I remembered, but still not great. The Superman gag was great, though. :teddyr:

What were these movies rated?  I don't remember topless beach babes in any of them!
