Film from the 80's with a talking cuddly toy dinosaur

I need help with this...
I think it was in the late 80's, I can ony remember little bits of the film but hopefully someone can help.  It's a family/ kids film, the little boy's mum is pregnant (I think) he has a wee cuddly toy dinosaur that talks to him, at one point the toy sings an elvis song.  The boy took the dinosaur everywhere and it's arm gets ripped, he takes it home and his mum puts a bandage on it. 

I seen the film when I was a kid, that's why the memory is so bad.  If anyone can help I'd be soo grateful. thanks T x
