Thanks, Rev! You weren't kidding about "one week only", but there is a theater playing it in downtown Buffalo and one south of the city (the other side from my northern neighborhood). Nice that the distributor didn't forget us!

Dr. Whom

The Devils (1971)

They played it over here as well, one week only. Actually four times only. I had heard of its reputation and boy, does it live up to it. It makes just about everything else look restrained and it occasionally strays into Monty Python territory. An unexpected face was Brian Murphy who would later go on to fame as George Roper. Also, the main inquisitor looked disturbingly like Warren Zevon. You have peak Oliver Reed and wild histrionics all around.

In my experience many of the 'decadent' movies I had heard about in my childhood years (Il Decamerone, Emmanuelle, La Grande Bouffe...) turned out to be rather tame when I finally got to see them. The Devils, on the other hand is anything but
"Once you get past a certain threshold, everyone's problems are the same: fortifying your island and hiding the heat signature from your fusion reactor."

Wenn ist das Nunstück git und Slotermeyer? Ja! ... Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput.

I missed it (and have never seen it 'cause I was waiting for this very opportunity to see it completely uncut) but I did get to see Warren Zevon live back in '99. He was a cool guy.

Some locations have added another week of screening THE DEVILS, since it made a lot more money than anticipated.

Just got back from watching Street Fighter.  It was a fun movie.  Over the top, but they never felt like they weren't taking it seriously or that they looked down on the material.

Loved their Chun-li and their Blanka.  The Guile was a bit bit dry.  They also managed to do something next to impossible.  They made Ryu feel like an interesting character.

The guy they got as M. Bison is no Raul Julia but he wasn't horrible.

WILDWOOD: After her baby brother is kidnapped by a murder of crows, a girl ventures into the Impassable Wilderness (with a geeky companion in  tow) and ends up in an epic battle for the fate of the wood. Mostly stop-motion animated, but seamless, with no stuttering--it's a technical marvel--while the story is epic and surprisingly dark (this has the highest body count of any children's movie of the decade.) I could see someone rating this 5/5 (I certainly would have as a kid). I'm not sure about the marketing here; it's only being shown at matinees here, which means kids are in school and can't see it. I guess they're praying word of mouth will lead to an expanded release, but right now it's a financial bomb---that's also probably the favorite to win the Oscar for best animated film. 4/5.
