The worst movie I have ever seen

The Devil's Rejects had a couple of things going for it. I liked the way it turned the tables on the killers, turning them into victims. Poetic justice that they get a taste of their own sadistic medicine, and kind of an interesting demonstration of audience manipulation. Again, WW is missing the point of making the killers into the heroes. It's a very deliberate thing, making us hate them, then showing a less sadistic side of them, making them kind of likeable, and then inviting sympathy for them while supplanting them with a bigger villain, then finally encouraging the audience to root for them outright. It says something about human nature. In that regard, I thought it was quite clever.

I also liked this scene:

That said, I don't think it was as good as House of 1,000 Corpses, which I thought really captured the feel of a low-budget 1970s exploitation horror flick. I also found Captain Spaulding funnier in the first one.

I have a strong dislike for Hostel.
I dislike Eli Roth in general.

I also don't like Cabin Fever, everyone told me it was great but I couldn't see why.

My ex made me watch Cabin Fever, after she'd rented it. It was awful, then she called me a sick pervert for watching it.........she made me watch it!??  :hatred:  :bluesad:

Like Andy C pointed out, if there is a huge beacon of light in Zombie's films its Sid Haig as Spaulding. Zombie's gal pal seems to get casted because...well...she is Zombie's gal pal.   Bill Moseley's character annoys me but I have to admit Moseley plays a great prick.  I also dug William Forsythe in TDR.

The Movie CAPTIVITY Was Hideously bad

Me, I never really felt sympathy for the killers in "Rejects", though I do think they were given an excellent ending: They aren't executed by the feral sheriff, but they do end up getting a taste of exactly what they do to other people, before ironically being saved by someone who loves them and driving off, simply accepting death in the same way they lived.

And count me among those who liked "Corpses" better, it actually had a cool sense of humor whereas "Rejects" was just mean for the most part. ;)

For the latest on the fifth installment in Don Coscarelli's Phantasm saga.

Nukie 2

I didn't understand House of 1,000 Corpses, the Firefly's were just too cartoony, goofy, and shallow to be believable, and they had no motive to do what they did. The whole idea of the movie-- "Young people get stranded, end up hacked to bits by backwoods pyschos" has been done so many times. It's like Rob Zombie was trying to make a cult movie for a mainstream audience. I'll say it was fun to watch, but it's not revolutionary nor did it live up to any of it's hype.

OK: IT"S ONLY A MOVIE.

Let's get this straight...it is only a movie. Dammit! Sid Haig.Bob Mosley. Ken Foree. Micheal Berryman. etcetcetc. People act like this is some kinda serious comment on life. IT IS A HORROR MOVIE.Whadda ya want outta a HORROR movie? Nowadays...crap like HOSTEL and SAW? or something that makes you reconsider your own values? Cheap thrrills is part of what Zombie was aiming at....and at questioning our own indulgence in cheap thrills. Before you condem Devils Rejects...consider why you lke HALLOWEEN...or the Jason series...or any gore film. Plot devolpment? Insight? No. YOU WANT TO SEE PEOPLE DIE IN REAL GORY WAYS. Sooooo....who is the real sadist? the fictional charecters on screen? Or we who pay to see it? OOOOiiieeeeeooo...!
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)

Epic Movie....

I think that was it. I was deployed to Afghanistan and we had a shared drive full of free movies. I couldn't make it through the first 15 minutes - literally. I think they were at the point were they were doing some Willy Wonka parody and I couldn't bare it anymore.

Nukie 2

I condemn House of 1,000 Corpses for not living up to the hype-- the whole big deal is that Rob Zombie was having such a hard time releasing because of censors and ratings boards, whilst editors in Horror-Magazines we're raving on about the mans unique vision. And then when this contraversial piece came out, it was a spliced-up cartoon of Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Atleast Devils Rejects wasn't ridiculously hyped, and it was nasty-- which Corpses should have been.

I just found DEVIL'S REJECTS relentlessly unpleasant, depicting and glorifying the worst aspects of humanity, and not horrifying.  It takes some sort of talent, I guess, to pound the audience with creative images of cruelty.  It takes some sort of talent to fill the screen with repulsive images that make the audience retch, too.  I just don't think its worth using your talent in that way, and I don't think the final product is worth watching.

I also hated the heroic death scene Zombie awarded the Fireflies.  The only happiness there for me is that there won't be a sequel.

The audience manipulation AndyC talks about didn't work for me.  I appreciate, in theory, that Zombie tried to do something a little different there.  But since I wasn't willing to go along with the project, and I resented the attempt, I ended up watching a movie with two sets of people to root against, and no one to root for.  I guess that creative aspect makes it a little better than more commercial torture porn like SAW and HOSTEL, but to me, that's like winning an award for best acting in an adult video.

I liked HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES better, because it was a horribly directed, pretentious mess that I could laugh at--a true bad movie.  THE DEVIL'S REJECTS suffered from being (technically) too good, making it a movie that's no fun to watch because it achieves its unpleasant effect too well.

It's a tough question of tone when tackling this kind of material.  I think HENRY, PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER is a small materpiece, and despite the gore and scenes that make you squirm, it's truly horrifying to think of a real life figure like Henry.  I didn't get that feeling at all from THE DEVIL'S REJECTS.

I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...
