American businesses were  treating Cuba like a playground for them. Cuba was virtually being ran by American businessmen for their benefit.  Che' and Castro organized the Cuban people to rise up and throw out the American corporate occupation government.  He wasn't perfect,  but he fought against capitalist occupation of his country. He fought against Big Biz which of course makes him evil incarnate in the eyes of the american corporate dominated media.

He also brutally murdered all who opposed the Marxist takeover of his country, and died while trying to stir up communist revolutions in South America with similar violent means.
Frankly, Sven, how many of the modern conveniences that make our lives so pleasant were invented by communist countries?
None that I can recall.  For all its flaws, capitalism has done more to advance the quality of human life than any economic system in history.

American corporations owned and operated Cuba like a private playground for years. He and Castro kicked american business out of Cuba.  He became an enemy of capitalism and capitalism always demonized its enemies because capitalism has become Americans true religion. I don't know how much of the demonization of che was true.  I remember the "Iraqi soldiers taking babies out of incubators in kuwaite" story we were  told to sell us on the first Iraq war.  Which was about Saddam hussein seizing  a family owned oil  corporation named kuwaite.

People mistake likability with goodness. Maureen O' Hara wrote in her autobiography about meeting Che and finding him charming and he sang her Irish songs his grandmother had taught him and so she came away impressed by him as a person, conveniently forgetting his atrocities and brutality.

And by the way, The Motorcycle Diaries was fabricated after Che's execution, yet it somehow helped turn him into a leftist icon, joining the equally inappropriate Guy Fawkes, a militant 17th century Catholic who wanted absolute monarchy, the ethnic cleansing of Protestants, and the introduction of the Inquisition into England.

Yet today to the dimly misguided Fawkes is a symbol of freedom to resist, and Che is a good-hearted revolutionary.

It's a very mixed up world where crap rises to the top more often than cream.

Oh, yes, Cuba WAS soooo much better under Castro that there were thousands of ungrateful people risking their lives every day to ESCAPE from it.  They must have been a bunch of deluded ingrates.

Oh, BTW, I know a fellow who used to LIVE in Cuba and he was a prisoner in one Fidel's workcamps for years.  He once asked a guard how he could get out of work duty that day and guard told him, "Cut off one of your toes."  and the guy was DESPERATE he actually DID IT.  He cut off his little toe on his left foot.  Can you even comprehend how BAD things must have been to go to that measure to get out of a few days work?

Just a suggestion, Sven, I'm told Cuba universally grants asylum to almost any American who shows up there wanting long-term residency. Since you are a socialist, you might want to make your way there and find happiness. (I'm not kidding and I'm not making a joke at your expense, it's a thought I have been meaning to pass along to you. You might like life there.)
