The most bizarre, alien and in some way beautiful monster i've ever seen.

The eyes are real, yet so unlike anything an eye should be like.

One of my favorite creatures in the world.

True story that's always felt meaningful to me. Years ago I was sitting on some steps by a line of yew shrubs when I saw a tiny praying mantis there. I reached out my hand and it hopped out onto it and sat there looking at me, twisting its head. After a moment I set it back on the yew shrub and then when I reached out again, it hopped back onto me, poised on my finger. I held it there and it sat looking at me for the longest time, until I finally did have to go, so I set it back on the shrub. It was almost like it was as curious about me as I was about it. I bet not a week has passed since but I've thought about that.
