70's or 80's movie about cattle mutilations aliens and a mineshaft

I'm trying to figure out the name of this  70's or 80's movie about cattle mutilations aliens and a mineshaft.
There was this farmer type dude and he had something that seemed like a glowstick and he was perhaps an alien
doing this surgically prescise cattle mutilations. He then went into this mineshaft I guess that was the aliens hideout.

Yeah . . . I saw this on late-night HBO or Showtime back in the 1980s.  It would make a good (bad) double feature with WITHOUT WARNING (1980).
