I had one of those wierd flashes yesterday where I remember some fragmented memory from childhood and it involves a really bad film. I was about 11 or 12 years old when I saw this film, and I had to do some googling to come up with the title. This almost became a "What Was That Film" query.

A good friend of the family was watching me for the weekend when I was that age in 1979 because my parents were going out of town. He was one of those cool older guys who watched me from time to time who did "cool" things like us having pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner all weekend, that kind of thing. He actually took me to see the 1978 version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, although I don't think my parents knew it. Ah, the 70's were a different time weren't they? Anyway, this one particular weekend he took me out to the movies and we were just going to see what was playing. So we went to the local multiplex (a 4-screen multiplex was state-of-the-art at that time), and at my tender age and of course being a huge fan of sci-fi, I saw the poster for Starcrash and immediately pointed to that one. He didn't know any better, so, "One adult and one child for Starcrash, please."

Now, from my 11-12 year-old perspective, it was just a sci-fi film and I remember being mildly entertained by it, but was just mature enough to realize it was a Star Wars ripoff and not nearly as good. That was my 11-12 year-old perspective, mind you. My weekend caretaker spent the film alternately cracking up and slapping his hand to his forehead saying "Oh my God I can't believe I'm watching this." God bless him he stuck with it for my sake. You have to keep in mind my age, the year, and the fact that I had been watching reruns of the british sci-fi series Space: 1999 on UHF, so this movie was just par for the course as far as I was concerned. I had no idea until I just I.D.'d the film that it was an Italian film.

I've contemplated trying to find this, but I'm wondering if it is worth it. I know it's got to be really, really bad, but is it going to be entertaining to watch or a complete waste of time? Any thoughts?
I don't always talk about bad movies, but when I do, I prefer badmovies.org

I own a VHS copy for almost 15 years (maybe longer) and I still find it a joy to watch. Also David Hasselhoff with a lightsabre

Dr. Whom

An absolute classic! It never fails to entertain me. And Count Zarth Arn has the most evil laugh in the universe. Muahahaahaha!

I love "Starcrash."  And, in a strange twist of fate, initial reports are that Shout Factory is releasing it on DVD on 10 August 2010 - which is my birthday.  I want a nice "Starcrash" DVD for my birthday!
