I bought a beautiful widescreen DVD-R of this movie from Cinema de Bizarre.  It's in Spanish without English subtitles, but who cares!  I don't think the translation would have helped much anyway.

The movie begins in ancient Egypt with Naschy as Amenhotep getting mummified.  Centuries later, in 1800s London, he is revived and goes on a killing spree.

This is the uncut version, complete with throat slashings, stabbings, and gory head crushings (complete with eyeballs coming out of their sockets and mushy brains oozing out).  But believe me, it isn't as interesting as it sounds.

My favorite part is when a couple of people have a conversation near the Thames.  You can clearly see cars and trucks driving on the road in the background (remember, this takes place in the 1800s).

I like Naschy's werewolf movies better.

Here is what Cinema de Bizarre uses for the DVD cover art:

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

I have a couple of Paul Naschy flicks on  the rack. Is this film one that is really  rare?

Well, it's rare in the U.S. because it isn't available here . . . unless you get a DVD-R copy from someone who was able to get it overseas.

I have an uncut version of this with english subtitles so they are out there. I haven't watched it yet though.

Actually, Cinema de Bizarre advertizes the copy I bought as having English subtitles.  I'll need to investigate this further . . . Although, it's pretty easy to follow even without the subtitles.

As far as Paul Naschy films go, I thought this was pretty much OK. It's cheap and the good bits are too far from each other, but I actually think it's better than those horrible mummy movies Hammer kept making after the one with Peter Cushing.

I remember a scene, probably my favourite from this movie, where Naschy has asked somebody to prepare him "companions". Basically he moves around the room smashing the heads of every sinlge one he doesn't like. Ouch.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
