Not really grinds my gears, but annoys me: Why do girls always got to have the latest fashion trend? I'm a guy who doesn't care about the expensive name brands, just buy the regular trend. I also don't understand why some people pay hundreds of dollars for a pair of shoes.....

It's all about status, either appearing to be more trendy and wealthy than others, or trying to fit in with a particular crowd. I don't wear any brand clothing, and even if it is some designer stuff, it's usually a very obscure label. It does annoy me though when people are always upgrading things and getting whatever's "in vogue" and looking down their at those who don't.

Mr. DS

Dunno, the whole fashion name brand trend is silly to me.  People buy sh!t to be a walking advertisement for the clothing company.  Seems kind of backwards to me...

People like those actually exist?
Looking down at people who are not consumer-whores?
Wow...

They're insecure.  They have no faith in their own 'eye' for what looks good or trendy so they have to rely on a label as an indicator.  Same for people who think a high price = better.  Pretty sad: especially when it does not really work for them and the 'look' does not work.

My wife is a very good dresser. She keeps up with fashion, but runs a mix of fashionable, traditional, tasteful, and what just plain looks good on her. Also, most of my clothes are what she's picked up for me. I trust her completely in everything except jeans. She bought a pair of them once that I never wear. But other than that, she's always on the money.

Oh, and she's got this pair of knee-high boots that she puts on occasionally that...ok, that's just for me. Nevermind.

Yeah, my wife and daughter #2 are both really into clothes.  It's their hobby.  They follow the trends somewhat (I suppose, I don't really know  :bouncegiggle: ) but they hunt for bargains and basically just buy what they think looks nice.

It's like any other hobby - you've got your guys who enjoy watching football on TV, and then there are the guys who paint their bodies in their team colors and stand outside shirtless in 20 degree weather.

Other peoples hair. When I see people walking down the street with long hair (men & women) and see that the wind isn't having any effect on their hair it really "grinds my gears". If it's a strong wind their hair will be blown back, whereas my hair blows up and all over the place and then stays like that. Everybody else's falls nicely back into place. Plus, when it rains heavy, I see people walking down the street and their hair isn't even getting wet! After about 10 seconds my hair is pasted to my skull like a big dead spider!

I'm one of those where my hair is completely unaffected by wind or rain. Then again, I'm completely bald, so instead the water just immediately drips down into my eyes.

DEMOCRATS!!!!
Every solution for every problem seems to involve either taking more of my money, through taxes, or more of my freedom, by making the government bigger and more intrusive than it already is.  Not to mention that no matter how much they take from us, they will always spend morethan they take, so they have to come back and demand more.
I PAY MY BILLS, YOU IDIOTS!!!!!  WHY CAN'T YOU??????? :hatred:

So, what you're saying is that the Republicans don't do any of these things?

Actually, Indy. You know me well enough to know I'm baiting you a bit there.  :tongueout:

However, I just find it funny when clearly partisan people say things like that, but if they actually took the time to look at the voting records of their partisan favorites they will likely have to put some rather long blinders on to avoid seeing some of the things they don't want to. Republicans believe in just as big a government, my friend. They have to. If they don't, they'll lose the power struggle with the Democrats.

Trust me, I know that there are many Republicans who are just as addicted to overspending and increasing the power and reach of government as any Dem . . . and there are a few Democrats out there I agree with.  BUT, it's a major difference of degree between running towards socialism and bankruptcy with open arms and kind of slowly crawling towards it . . .

Clinton did a WAY better job with the budget than Bush though. That medicare part D thing, I mean Iraq the issues about should we have gone or not, it is extremely expensive.  I remeber reading at one point that the American military in Iraq was the 34th biggest consumer of oil in the world. like when oil was 150 a barrel. Clinton was luckier than Bush in some respects but still.

as for the current adminstration, the proof is in the pudding. Obama got dealt a terrible hand but he's played it pretty poorly.

Also, what grinds my gears is the federal reserve! I deliver packages for a living and the more gas goes up the smaller my profit margin is and they are going to start printing more money again.  gas will go up. Ben Bernanke, that's who grinds my gears.
