The Beginning of my NetFlix Odyssey

I'm finally joining the 21st century and have begun a NetFlix membership. I was reluctant because if I was going to do it I wanted to take advantage of downloading direct to my tv. I learned that my Wii will work for that purpose, so I'm excited. I can see the possibilities for seeing all the good and bad movies that I've never gotten around to seeing. I'm just waiting on the setup disc for our Wii to get started. The problem is I hardly know where to start. I feel overwhelmed and just started searching randomly. I could use some suggestions, especially in the area of classic cheese or unusual films. So far some of the movies in my queue:

The House of the Devil
Zombieland
The entire Phantasm series
Toy Story 2
Plan 9 From Outer Space (I've never watched the whole thing from start to finish)
The Road Warrior

I feel like a kid in candy store, no focus whatsoever in figuring out what to put in my queue. So many movies and shows, so little time.

I don't always talk about bad movies, but when I do, I prefer badmovies.org

Hammock Rider

It's worth it. The relative low cost per movie means you can take chances that you might not otherwise be able to afford.

That's pretty much what I'm after. My wife will finally get to see some of the titles that could never be seen at a Blockbuster, or that she would not go along with purchasing on DVD, movies I know about that she doesn't know about. She's up for following my lead on the cheese, so that's good. She's a horror nut, but she's never seen a lot of stuff that is regularly discussed here. She's partial to slasher/thriller, but she's not opposed to supernatural either. That's why I've got all the Phantasm movies in the queue. She's never seen one of them.

I generally surf the website and put anything that sounds interesting in my queue. Then I rearrange the first few slots depending on what sounds interesting to me. So the stuff I have out should be the stuff I most want to watch.

Plus, the actual DVD's out are supplemented by the watch instantly stuff. For example, right now you can watch Phantasm III.

One thing, Netflix tends to lose films from their catalog if they're too obscure. They break or people don't return them. So you might want to check those out first.

Be sure to take advantage of all the free streaming options.  Netflix will suggest movies you may like and you can just throw them into your instant queue.  Also take suggestions from here. You won't need any help at all filling your queue.  Soon enough it will be totally unmanageable.

Netflix may be the greatest thing to happen to movie lovers in my lifetime.

I just put tons of stuff in my instant queue and then browse through them each evening until I come across something I'm in the mood for.  Or you can browse various genres, or recent additions, suggestions based on stuff you've watched recently, etc.  So dig in and have a good time  :teddyr:

BixDugan

Dracula Vs Frankenstein

Zontar: The Thing From Venus

The Alien Factor

Loch Ness Horror

The Galaxy Invader

I don't know if any of these are on Netflix, but they're all good Bad Movies.

I've had a Netflix membership for about a year and a half and I love it.
In fact, I'm canceling my cable today.  In the last two weeks, I think I've watched about 120 minutes worth of cable TV.  And it costs me around $60 per month.  90% of the time, there's nothing good on it and I end up streaming a movie from Netflix on my Xbox 360.
Saying that Netflix is the better deal is an understatement.

My Instant Queue on my Xbox 360 became totally unmanageable a long time ago.  Last time I checked there were over 350 movies in it.  Some I have seen.  Many others I haven't.  I just wish there was a "Go to End of Queue" button I could press to take me to the end of my Instant Queue on my Xbox.  Right now, I have to keep pressing the right bumper on the controller tons of times to scroll all the way to the end.  Takes forever.  Yes, I can go on the website and manually organize my queue, but since I have so many movies on it, it takes forever for the instant queue page to load.  (a pain in the ass)

The basic $8.99 membership at Netflix has to be one of the best deals I've ever seen.
You made a wise choice.

Yeah, I did the exact same thing (cancel cable).  The only things I'm missing are live sports and 24 hour news.

Yeah, I'm a baseball nut and considering cancelling my DirectTV with all the baseball I can handle is not gonna happen right now. Plus, there actually are shows my wife and I watch (more her than me). I'm a junkie of the following shows:

Dexter
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Hell's Kitchen

A few others if you add my wife's shows.

We'll see what a few months of NetFlix does to that attitude, however.  :bouncegiggle:

Hulu.com and bittorrent solves that problem for us.
