movie from the early 1970's

I saw this in the early 1970's - it could of came out in the 1960's

All I remember is it's somewhere in the midwest-.  I am not sure if there is a murder or just a rape ?????  I remember something happened to some girl in a group of friends... they start looking for the guy (the bad guy).. they are driving around in a big old car... they leave a friend behind to stay with a blind girl.. while they search.  They find a necklace at the scene of crime - the necklace belongs to the friend they left behind.     Well the bad guy who they left behind tries to drown the blind girl in a bathtube.
