Mac and Me (1988)

I'm making official right now, my next college paper is on product placement in movies and this is the film I'm picking.  I cannot ignore this film at all.  This movie screams product placement and has been the center of my ridcule in those product placement topics and frankly, why not?  Look at this:

So frankly, the product placement has been brought up so much, but how is the movie itself, outside of it being a stupid E.T. ripoff.  Admittedly, I only saw a brief portion of it years ago and it frankly I just don't remember what I felt about it.  I'm going to check it out soon, but for those who have seen it, what is your thoughts on the film?  Is it as bad as how much it is whoring itself for all of these advertistments?
