How is Halloween III relevant to the other movies?

In my mind it usually makes sense to have sequels follow in coherence with the previous films; so why the lack of Michael Myers, who the franchise is build around? Different cast, different storytelling... how does it make sense to call this movie Halloween III?

After part 2, John Carpenter wanted to make a series of films based on a Halloween theme. Part 3 was the first of these. Unfourtanatly, the studio didn't buy the concept after Part 3 sank at the box office. So they went back to rehashing the Micheal Myers theme.

I wish they had never put Michael Meyers in HALLOWEEN 2. Carpenter's original idea of a new movie each year on a Halloween theme was a much better and more original one.

I guess I'll chime in, but RC and Rev already said it perfectly. I'd give ya karma RC if I could.

Putting Myers in the first sequel definitely wrecked any chance Carpenter's idea had of working. If Halloween II had established the pattern of different but thematically connected stories, who knows what might have happened? And the open ending of the first Halloween would have been a great place to stop.

The idea behind Halloween was to make a new/different story each time around. John Carpenter wanted to do this in Halloween part 2 but the producers wanted to turn it into a Michael Myers slasher chain because Friday the 13th had box office success and it was time for them to make a Halloween Franchise.

I do believe if John Carpernter has gotten his way... Halloween 2 would of been The Fog and The Thing could of been Halloween 3 or 4.

I would get into a THING 2 if Carpenter did it. The 8o's THING, in my useless opinion,is better than the 50's original! And.....Iim gonnna catch hell for this......IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPCE or PLANET of BLOOD better than ALEN! Im sick. Help me Spock.

and now let us never speak of him again.

and personally I liked Halloween 3.  WHile it's not as good as one or two, it's tons better than any of the other sequals and remakes.

Do you mean Planet of the Vampires and Queen of Blood?

It's nice that Alien came after Planet of the Vampires and IT... :)

I like all 3 versions from the short story Who Goes There? The Thing from Another World, The Thing and Horror Express... :)
