I agree with Jim H. on this not really being a remake AND on the fact that the whole Cameron Diaz romantic interest angle was a waste.  The one thing that they kinda did with her that I liked (but they didn't explore it enough to make her appearance in the movie worth it) was (SORTA SPOILER ALERT):

I liked the way that they made her the mastermind behind the antics of the Green Hornet without her even knowing it.  It was a kinda interesting angle, but it was not used enough to make enough of an impact to make it worth it overall.  If they had done a little more with that, and dropped the romantic triangle altogether, then I could see her part being a good contribution.  Not that a movie like this can't have a romantic subplot, but the way that they did it seemed like such an afterthought, and didn't contribute...

Probably the only people who'll like the film are the ones like me who've: A.) Never seen the tv show, and B.) are fans of Seth Rogen.

Very true - I was in that group too.  But yeah, if you have a reverance for the show or hate Seth Rogen, then this ain't the flick for you...

Interestingly, I saw it at Alamo Drafthouse and before the movie, they showed a bunch of clips from the show and now I DO want to see that too (too bad I missed the SyFy marathon).  It almost kinda worked in reverse for me!

I now have an interest in seeing the show, just to see how it differs.  I like Seth Rogen so I'm interested in the flick but likely I'll wait til DVD.

On a side note, it makes me wonder how Kevin Smith's version would've turned out.  He's notable for the Jay and Silent Bob films, but he's done some comic books and is a fan of the show.  I just don't know if he'd pull out an action style superhero flick.  It'd probably have Kato and Britt talking about like, how much they get oral sex from their girlfriends or something.  I dunno.

My view: Not very good overall.  Worth a rental maybe.

On the plus side the visuals were excellent.  Loved the split screen & "Kato vision."  The final action sequence was quite preposterous, which could be good or bad depending on your view.

The script was dumb & lazy.  There were lots of interesting angles to these characters that weren't exploited.  The fact that Kato has 100% of the talent and the Green Lantern has none should have made for a lot more comedy and drama than it actually did.  Couldn't figure out why Kato was so willing most of the way to let GH hog the glory.

GH demonstrated no real fighting ability, but there was one scene where he held his own against a fighter who he couldn't possibly have defeated (you know the scene I mean).  Rubbed me the wrong way.

I don't see what people like about Seth Rogen.  He wasn't bad but he seemed like a lower-key Will Ferrell.  Not impressed by this performance.

Overall, 2/5.

P.S. Never saw the TV show, never saw Seth Rogen before.

Better Seth Rogen flicks: Observe and Report, which is a dark dark comedy with Ray Liotta, and Pineapple Express, which has a brilliant performance by James Franco.

You have to wait a few months for the crushing disappointment of the Green Lantern to appear in the cinema.

Yeah, a magic ring dosen't make a movie. Besides, any villian with blonde hair or a yellow suit is completely resistant to the Lantern Ring. What kind of ring won't affect anything that's yellow?  :bouncegiggle:

Yellow suit in part, but yellow hair would just mean the yellow hair was immune.  Either way, someone as powerful as the Green Lantern can make the environment hurt them easily enough (throw a giant boulder).

I thought it was OK. I wouldn't say "good", but I was expecting much worse from it. The "Kato-Vision" was cool.
Also, Christoph Waltz was a redeeming factor.

the glass of lemonade is really what does it for me in that scene.
All Star Batman and Robin is amazing.

Saw it in 2d and I liked it.
Its by-the-numbers stuff, but alright for an evening.

The only other Seth Rogan film I liked was Monsters Vs. Aliens.

Just saw it tonight in 2D.  It just seemed like a watered down version of Kick-Ass.  A few laughs, but not enough to warrant a second viewing or even a higher rating.
1.5/5

Mr. DS

I just watched this film and its not all that bad.  Good action, decent comedy (though I'm not really a Rogan fan) and a plot that is well paced.

I have yet to see it...I couldn't get past Seth Rogan in the main role and the trailers made it look silly. Besides, they couldn't have Bruce Lee which is another strike against it.
Yes,I'm fine....as long as I don't look too closely.
