When the wardrobe department was looking for a coat for Frank Morgan (Professor Marvel / The Wizard), they decided they wanted one that looked like it had once been elegant but had since "gone to seed". They visited a second-hand store and purchased an entire rack of coats, from which Morgan, the head of the wardrobe department, and director Victor Fleming chose one they felt gave off the perfect appearance of "shabby gentility". One day, while he was on set in the coat, Morgan idly turned out one of the pockets and discovered a label indicating that the coat had been made for L. Frank Baum. Mary Mayer, a unit publicist for the film, contacted the tailor and Baum's widow, who both verified that the coat had at one time been owned by the author of the original "Wizard of Oz" books. After the filming was completed, the coat was presented to Mrs. Baum.

Clerks.- Apparently it cost more to produce the soundtrack to the movie than it cost to produce the entire film.

Ghostbusters- John Candy was originally intended to portray Louis Tully.  He was unable to commit, and Rick Moranis took over.  Harold Ramis initially had no interest in portraying Egon.  The role was offered to Chevy Chase, who turned it down.  They also considered Christopher Lloyd and Jeff Goldblum for the role.  Also, Winston Zeddemore was to be portrayed by Eddie Murphy, and the role was much bigger.  But, Eddie had started filming Beverly Hills Cop, and was unable to do both.  And, an odd side story to Ghostbusters: When the cartoon was getting produced, Ernie Hudson had auditioned to voice Winston on the show.  The producers had informed him that he wasn't right for it, even though he portrayed it in the movie.  They gave it to Arsenio Hall.

Beetlejuice- Tim Burton's original choice for the role of Beetlejuice was Sammy Davis Jr.  However, producers talked him into using Michael Keaton instead.  And, apparently, there's an unproduced sequel script floating around entitled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.

The Last Temptation of Christ: When Martin Scorsese was planning the movie (around 1983), he wanted to cast Vanity as Mary Magdalene.

I liked her before, during the hotness and even the no-so-hot scene at the end.  :tongueout:

venomx

Yeah... you're right. She was hot throughout the whole movie... just not in troll form lol. :twirl:

AndyC

Huh. I thought I was the only one who thought she was hot at the beginning. I'd say that was her best look, although some oral hygiene would have been an improvement.

From the IMDB regarding Cliffhanger:

Carolco had originally signed Sylvester Stallone to appear opposite John Candy in a comedy directed by John Hughes about feuding neighbors. When the project was dropped, Stallone was persuaded to appear in Cliffhanger.

The 2010 movie Tooth Fairy, starring Dwayne Johnson, was originally written for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the early 90s, under the title "Sweet Tooth." Arnold opted to make The Last Action Hero instead.
