As for what happened, I'm not seeing anything to indicate the egging in this case was because she was in a wheelchair. Seems more like some pranksters brought eggs with the intent to throw them regardless. And from a practical point of view, her reduced mobility in that situation would have made her a great target.

What I wonder is whether the media themselves made it about the wheelchair, or Gaga's own people spun it that way to play her up as a controversial and provocative artiste.

There have been enough examples of people getting their 15 minutes of fame by chucking something at a famous person for me to think it was just some pranksters looking to grab a headline and have something to brag about.

Now, the idea that it had anything to do with taking offense at what was on stage has no basis I can see. That might well have been spun to Gaga's advantage, making it about the show pushing boundaries and not about some group of people using the star to show off, or perhaps expressing their overall dislike of her.
