Two questions about Elvira MOTD

As much as I love this film (and I do), two things have always puzzled me about this film.

1) Why does she not love the house in its original state? I would have thought she would have liked it the way it was and not what they turn it into.

2) Why does she fall for a jock?

Minor things I know, but things I have always questioned.
