they were the ultimate inept garage band. There's a real beauty to that

The Shaggs had an interesting story: apparently their father had a "vision" that they were destined to become big time rock stars, so he bought them musical instruments and forced them into lessons, despite a near-total lack of interest, or talent, on the part of the girls. They were terrified of him so they just went along with it to keep him happy.

Their strange tale was made into an off-Broadway play a couple of years ago; I remember reading a review of it in the paper.
